  6. 6. 01 BUFFALO AQUIFER PARK /Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN This selection from my award winning thesis on high-performance landscape systems derived design from extensive geological, hydrological research & GIS study. Buffalo Aquifer Park becomes one of an outer ring of parks around the Ru.3a area designed to establish hydrological resiliency through strategic land-use. It aids in preventing flooding, while re-charging aquifers, in addition to a long list of other environmental and economic benefits, including serving residents with a vast program of year-round recreation. 8. 8. 02 RED RIVER PARK & TRAIL SYSTEM /Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN This award winning thesis integrated high-performance landscapes with carbon fiber windstalks (4a) the region’s park and trail system. A major challenge was creating a trail system accessible up to the 100 year flood. The solution of ‘weaving‘ the cantilever bench (4c) cast concrete 2x4 treated wood trails of the three major park types (Rural preventative, Suburban mitiga- stainless steel support LED underlighting tive, and Urban interpretive) fortuitiously derived from the bending river rock underbed paving pattern of the existing Memorial Bridge project that joins the hearts of downtowns Fargo and Moorhead. This also led to the interwo- planting red maple ven theme of materials selected to create a ‘diversified unity‘ throughout red oser dogwood mulch bed the system. 11. 11. 03 DECC REMEDIATION WALKING PARK WITH FLOTSAM & JETSAM PLAZAS Great /Duluth, MN Lakes Aqarium As an individual excerpt from a post-industiral urban infill team project, my Festival design takes form with elements complementing the shipyard heritage of Park the site. The shape of the ship slips is noted in the elongated water feature running the axis of the site and in the industrial I-beam seating. Multi-surface groundcover and wooden planks embedded in the plaza give nod to the wooden decking of a ship. Riprap boulder seating complements areas of the sli p1 connected shoreline trail-system, bringing it in to the rest of the site. sli DULUTH p2 HARBOUR BASIN 200FT 50 VC.HEFTI PLANNING + DESIGN// 2013 REMEDIATION WALKING PARK JETSAM FLOTSAM PLAZA PLAZA

  13. 13. 03 BAYFRONT HARBOUR /Duluth, MN In the NDSU urban design studio we were challenged, as a team, to create a form-based plan and regulation standards for an urban infill development on a former cement plant site in the Duluth Harbor Basin. Seeing the strengths of each team member, I became the organizer and go-to person, as such I quickly developed into the project leader. Our team created booklet which included our design for the site with write-ups for building use, street types, and open space standards. 15. 15. 04 INT’L SCHOOL OF LANDSCARPE ARCHITECTURE /Vedauwoo, WA The objective here was to create a series of outposts for a satallite summer campus of international landscape architecture study. GIS and handdrawn analysis were used to place outposts, each covering a specified aspect of the overall program. Outposts include: central Lodge built into the slope of the main rocky outcrop, computer lab and library atop Turtle Rock overlooking the valley, main classrooms in the northern prairie of rocky rifts called Tarsus, an observatory in the open field of Devil’s Playground, a natural amphiteather built of restructuring rocks, firepit, meditation study huts within aspen groves, study rooms located along the river, and cabins of recycle rail-cars built into massive boulders. 16. 16. 05 DRAINAGE DITCHES /Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN As part of my Environmental Design degree I combined an ecological design project with a GIS assignment, cross referencing city data including land-use, pollution, flooding, trails, and circulation. The resulting explorations of ditch design to solve for environmental solutions led to my interest in ‘high-performace’ or ‘working‘ landscapes. VC.HEFTI PLANNING + DESIGN// 2013
  17. 17. 06 WALNUT STREET COURTYARD /Old Town, Fort Collins, CO In the CSU garden design studio I was charged to apply the same program to 9 different garden styles (Rennasaince, English County, Far Eastern, Moorish, Indiginious, Modern Classical, Modern Organic, Minimalist, & Pop Culture/Post Modern) to a plaza in historic Old Town. The featured Pop Culture is representative of the culture of the era, expressed with a computer component theme including ‘USB plug’ sculture seating of local sandstone, motion sensored multi- colored lighting under glass ‘cables‘ and ‘traces,‘ a ‘USB port’ water feature, and polished slate ‘computer chip‘ slab seating. 19. 19. 07 DEARBORN PARK /Chicago, IL In Printer’s Row, a historic downtown district of Chicago, Dearborn Park became a rundown thoroughfare. The park lay barren and derilect, the grass dead from dog use. The re-design takes into consideration needs of local residents, a demographic few in children, many dog-owners, and large student population, contributes to the area’s historical narrative, preserves existing planting, and maintains a flexible program for additional and future uses. Always carry a sketchbook.” Ever since, I have carried one with me. Some pages are refined with elegant drawings, some in full color, others merely scribbles only I can decipher. To me, the act of drawing an object or place allows you to know it, capturing it in your memory a way a snapshot can not. I am seeking a firm that is looking to make the addition of a hardworking, eager, determined, ethical, good- “YOUR WORK IS TO DISCOVER YOUR WORK humored, talented, professional, to AND THAN WITH ALL YOUR HEART their team. TO GIVE YOURSELF TO IT. THAT’S THE MARK OF A TRUE PROFESSIONAL.” ABOUT ME -BuddhaVC.HEFTI PLANNING + DESIGN// 2013 I am an avid outdoors enthusiast & a wellrounded nerd. Jogging, biking, hiking, and snow- boarding are my joys in life. These are balanced with a vigor to learn and explore. WIRED, Nat Geo, classic literature like A Sand County Almanac, LAM, Co- Design, Hustwit films, TEDtalks, and site visits are on my list of interests. I’m not a fan of talking about my- self, but discussing Landscape Architecture always lights a spark in me. Particularly, I am drawn to high-performance landscape design in community development & public space, re-assessing the value of land. It is my passion, my calling, to advance the field with better design through greater understanding.
