  4. 4. Anoia in Catalonia (counties)<br />The Anoia’s neighbour counties are Solsonès, Bages, Baix Llobregat, Alt Penedès, Alt Camp, Conca de Barberà and Segarra.<br />Anoia county belongs to Barcelona province.<br />

Anoia map<br />In Anoia county there are 32 villages: Argençola, Bellprat, El Bruc, Cabrera d’Anoia, Calaf, Calonge de Segarra, Capellades, Carme, Castellfollit de Riubtregós, Castellolí, Copons, Hostalets de Pierola, Igualada, Jorba, La Llacuna, Masquefa, Montmaneu, Òdena, Orpí, La Pobla de Claramunt, Prats de Rei, Pujalt, Rubió, Sant Marti Sesgueioles, Sant Martí de Tous, Sant Pere Sallavinera, Santa Margarida de Montbui, Santa Maria de Miralles, La Torre de Claramunt, Vallbona d’Anoia, Veciana and Vilanova del Camí.<br />The capital of Anoia is Igualada.<br />
  6. 6. Anoia’s climate<br />Almost all Catalonia has a Mediterranean climate (only Aran valley has Oceanic climate).<br />Almost of the county has a Mediterranean Continental climate.<br />
  7. 7. Anoia’s temperature<br />The annual average temperatures in Anoia are: 11/12ºC in the North, 12/13ºC in the middle and 13/14ºC in the South.<br />

  10. 10. White Pine<br />One of the most common trees in the region of Anoia is the white pine. <br />Its name comes from the color of the bark.<br />In the white pine the pine cones make a 45 degrees angle with the branch. <br />
  11. 11. Rosmarin and thyme<br />The rosmarin and the thyme are aromatic herbs typical of the Mediterranean climate. <br />In Anoia county there are some small business of beekeeping.<br />
  12. 12. Oak, kermes aok and evergreen oak<br />In the North of the county the vegetation is composed of three plant species of the same family: oak, kermes oak and evergreen oak.<br />The fruit of these three plants is the acorn. <br />

  17. 17. Miralles-Queralt range (Precoastal central system )<br />One of the best preserved natural forest areas of the region is the Serra de Queralt-Miralles.<br />This mountain range ends at Tossa mountain.<br />

  19. 19. Secondary sector: Tanneries<br />One of the main industries of the region is the leather industry. <br />These factories are located along the river on their way to Igualada <br />
  20. 20. Secondary sector: brick factories<br />Another important industrial sector in our county is the brick factories.<br />In our region there are brick factories in Piera, Hostalets de Pierola, Jorba and El Bruc<br />
  21. 21. Secondary sector: paper factories<br />The paper industry is very important in the region. <br />As the factories need much water, they are next to the Anoia river.<br />The most important factories are in Capellades, La Pobla, La Torre de Claramunt and Carme.<br />
  22. 22. Secondary sector: textile<br />One of the most important industries in Igualada has been historically the textile, but since the 80’s is losing a large number of jobs.<br />

  26. 26. Montserrat<br />Montserrat is very important for Catalan people, because it is a religious and national symbol.<br />There is a black virgin, La Moreneta, in Montserrat basilica.<br />
  27. 27. La Tossa mountain <br />There is a romanesque church in La Tossa mountain, built in the Xith century.<br />There is also a castle which belonged to the Hispanic March<br />
  28. 28. Rubió wind mills<br />There is a wind farm with more than 20 wind mills in the Rubió range.<br />We visited them and we were very excited with the new knowledgements.<br />
  29. 29. Paper mill museum Capellades<br />The paper mill museum in Capellades is an old building dating from the XVth century. Jenny visited the museum in order to learn how they made paper in old times.<br />

  31. 31. European balloon festival (Igualada)<br />The European Balloon Festival is the largest concentration of international ballooning in South Europe. <br />The first edition was held in 1997 and since then it has been organized every year in July. <br />
  32. 32. Aerosport fair (Òdena)<br /> It’s a fair devoted to the aeronautics sportive sector.<br /> This fair is hold in Òdena at the beginning of May.<br />
  33. 33. La mostra fair (Igualada)<br />Its an exhibition of theatre for children and teens.<br />This fair is held in Igualada in April.<br />

  35. 35. Calaf market<br /> The legend says that a very cold and foggy market day, it was so cold that the people’s words were frozen. At midday when the sun came out the words were melting and suddenly there was a great noise. When you see a similar noisy situation it is said: “It seems the Calaf market”.<br />
  36. 36. The Bruc drummer:<br />During the invasion of the Napoleonic armies in Catalonia, a child began to play the drum. The echo of the drum echoed in Montserrat mountain and scared the French troops because they thought there were many Spanish soldiers. The French soldiers left the mountain.<br />
