Learning Strategies

What is it? <ul><li>A learning process – a set of steps, behaviours, routines, conscious enterprises, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>A way to comprehend and remember new skills and knowledge. </li></ul><ul><li>Useful for both teachers and students. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Does recognition of student’s or your own learning strategies help in anyway? </li></ul></ul>
  3. 3. What’s the point? <ul><li>Make learning easier , faster , more comprehensible , more effective , memorable , and most of all more enjoyable!!! </li></ul>

Figuring it out! <ul><li>AS A COMPLETE CLASS GROUP take 10 minutes to brainstorm all the different steps, behaviours, procedures, learning skills…a.k.a. learning strategies you think you use on a daily basis & in a variety of situations. Use the competence model as a guide (p.7) As a student? As an authority figure (parent, boss, big sister/brother, etc.)? As a human being coexisting with others? </li></ul>
  5. 5. Verdict? <ul><li>What are some unusual ones? </li></ul><ul><li>Will your students have unusual strategies? How might they interfere with your teaching strategies? </li></ul>
