Where to find friends on-campus

  1. 1. Where to find friends on-campus
  2. 2. The classroom might seem like a logical place to unearth a new uni friend, but it’s a bit hard to hold a conversation with your classmate when you need to be focused on your lecturer. So where can you find a new study friend?
  3. 3. Sometimes the stress and commitments of university can feel a little overwhelming, especially without mates who understand what it’s like to study. A lot of students come to university thinking that they’ll be the only person on-campus who doesn’t know anybody, but the truth is, there are a lot of solo students just like you hoping to meet a friendly face. We’re not saying you’re desperate for a new BFF, just that having friends and acquaintances on-campus can make university much more enjoyable and help to broaden your networks as a graduate. While it’s not easy to approach someone new, having an ally during your studies is totally worth a few awkward ‘Hi, my name is…’ introductions. So let’s get started!
  4. 4. Time to grab a bite? Us humans all have one great thing in common… we’ve gotta eat! So why not make the most of your chow- down time and keep an eye out for a friendly face in one of these food-focused locations.
  5. 5. • On-campus cafes • Coffee queues • Vending machines • Outdoor common areas / the quad • Student hubs and communal microwaves
  6. 6. Keen to get active? As students, we all know the importance of a little physical activity to keep study stress at bay. Why not take advantage of some feel-good endorphins and use exercise as an opportunity to break the ice with a new mate?
  7. 7. • USQ sports teams • 2015 Uni Games (hosted by USQ Toowoomba!) • USQ fun run teams (keep an eye on social media) • USQ The Works Health & Recreation Club (Toowoomba, Springfield & Ipswich) • Outdoor sporting ovals/fields (all campuses) • Outdoor resistance training gym (Fraser Coast & Toowoomba) • Multi-purpose courts (Springfield) • Clive Berghofer Recreational Centre and Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre (Toowoomba) • Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC)
  8. 8. Feeling studious? The great thing about being an on-campus student is you know everyone around you is here for the very same reason… to study! So why do it alone? Here are some great locations to find like-minded, ambitious students who are ready to hit the books just like you!
  9. 9. • In and around the library • Computer labs • Meet-Up groups • Group assignments • Course forums online • Waiting outside classrooms • Campus book shop
  10. 10. Ready to get out and about? Textbooks, modules and assignments can get the better of all us at one time or another, so if you’re looking for friends to let your hair down with, make sure you’re on campus for these great events…
  11. 11. • USQ Student Clubs • Harmony Day • Phoenix Carnival • UFest • USQ Career Fair • Common Hours To keep up to date with events on your campus, click here
  12. 12. Regardless of what or where you study, finding fellow student friends is much easier if you know where to look! Now that you know where to start, why not pick one of our awesome conversation starters to help get the ball rolling? If you’re in need of a confidence boost to help you on your way, be sure to check out our Shy Guys / Shy Girls guides to making friends.
