Siemens SA Siemens Performance Reports (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose The goal of this document is to provide the detailed description of all SPOTS V10.0 Performance Pre- Defined Reports. The usage of a separate document to describe SIEMENS reports takes into account the fact that these reports may evolve faster than the SPOTS infrastructure itself; thus, this solution provides a suitable response to changing customer requirements. A very large set of pre-defined performance measurement reports covering all technological domains, are provided under the "SIEMENS reports" folder. These are the SIEMENS suggested pre-defined reports, which were developed making use of a large experience supporting network operators all over the world. They should be considered just as SIEMENS proposals that neither cover every specific aspect of each network nor are thought to be compliant with every operator usual workflow. Case it is found necessary to extend the functionality of these reports (e.g. customisation for a particular case), SIEMENS reports can be used as templates to build custom reports. This can be done using the Reports Editor interface, described within [21], to edit the reports according to the syntax of the SPOTS reporting language (SRL). The syntax of this language is very simple, but powerful enough to describe any complex report — for details about SRL please refer to [18]. Be aware that, if changes are performed over the original version of the report (i.e. keeping the same report name), they will be lost upon upgrade to a new SPOTS installation. To avoid this, copy the report to a different file name after editing it — through this process, any number of versions of a pre-defined report can be created.   9. 9. Siemens Performance Reports (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) Siemens SA 1.4 Definitions In this chapter several terms frequently used within this document are defined. Please be aware that some definitions represent a restriction to the normal use of the term that only applies to the present document. Abbreviated Name The performance indicator abbreviated name that will be displayed on the report output. For the KPIs described within [17] and [19], a short KPI name is usually defined and often used as abbreviated name. Aggregation The Aggregation field will show how to evaluate for multiple elementary time periods (also called sample periods or granularity periods). Below are the aggregation criteria: SPBH TC Peak Sample at Time Coherent Peak Busy Hour for one or more days. The Time Coherent Peak Busy Hour is calculated by evaluating the Detailed data for a group of days, finding the day-profile (i.e. evolution of a reference variable throughout the time for one day) corresponding to the average day, and finally, obtaining the PBH from that day profile. SPBH Avg Peak Average of the Sample at Peak Busy Hour for one or more days. SPBH Max Peak Sample at the Maximum of the Peak Busy Hours for one or more days. Total Total value for one or more days. Total DTL Total value for one or more days calculated based on the Detailed data for those days. The Detailed data corresponds PM raw data. Total SPBH Total value for one or more days referring only to the Peak Busy Hour results. Obtained by adding the results of consecutive samples at Peak Busy Hour. SPBH Daily Peaks Sample at Peak Busy Hour for each day. DTOT Total value for each day. TEVL Regular samples providing a time evolution. The granularity of the samples is defined within the Reports code and is based on the database Detailed data. Auxiliary Header Some Performance Indicators can be grouped in the report under certain common information to enable a user-friendly layout. The auxiliary header will give a hint about the performance indicators meaning and can also provide information about the use-case to which is mainly addressed. Counter Name The performance measurement counter names according to Siemens counter specification documents: [03], [04], [07], [09], [13], [14], [15] and [17]. Different counters can share the same name if provided within different measurement jobs. Therefore, in reports providing performance indicators based on more than one measurement, there is the risk of having multiple meanings for the same counter name. To guarantee unique counter references within the reports, counter names can be preceded by the SPOTS measurement name separated by colon, (i.e. <Spots Measurement>:<Counter Name>, for instance "C7LSET:NUM_UNA"). The mapping between Siemens counter names and SPOTS counter names, and, the description of SPOTS measurements, is provided within [22]. E200301-01-714-V10.0I-01 9

Siemens SA Siemens Performance Reports (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) Date & Time The fields on the reports described as "date" and as "Time" provide the date and time corresponding to the end of the granularity period, or, case aggregation of samples is performed, the end time of the last granularity period included on the result. In order to keep the sample periods ending at 00:00 attached to the data from the day before, the time-stamp for these samples is always changed to 23:59 at the time of the loading into SPOTS database. Default value The Default Values represent the value assigned to an Input Parameter case the user doesn't define another at the time of the report execution. The application will assume a default value because all values are mandatory when running the report. Description The description will give you a short explanation about the content of the report and its main goals. Detailed Data The SPOTS data is organised in two logging tables: − Detailed Data − Historical Data The Detailed data is the raw PM data (typically with 15min granularity) stored in the database for a limited period of time, usually two weeks. Please refer also to the definition of Historical Data. Input Parameters These parameters define the selection of data that will be shown in the report. Examples of these parameters are the period of time and the Network Elements (e.g. MSC, BSC, Cell, TRX) to which the data corresponds, or, the kind of Aggregation that will be made over the time in order to show a single value for each indicator analysed. Some Input Parameters are simply chosen while selecting the report. For instance, the aggregation criterion is usually chosen by selecting one report variant from a folder named after that same report and containing several variants each one using a different aggregation criterion. Elementary Object It means the lowest-level object (in the sense of the SPOTS object containment hierarchy, please refer to [22]) for which the performance parameters of the report are evaluated (e.g. BSC, BTS, TRX, NODEB, RNC, UCELL or EXCHANGE). Historical Data The SPOTS data is organised in two logging tables: − Detailed Data − Historical Data The Detailed data is the raw PM data. The analysis of evolution trends of the PM counters requires observation over long periods of time. The existence of detailed records (usually every 15 minutes) is not appropriate for this type of analysis. This would mean keeping in the Database an information volume of an "unacceptable" dimension, both due to the required amount of storage capacity and to the performance degradation in the access. As an alternative, the significant indicators should be evaluated from the Detailed data and only those (Historical data) must be kept into the Database for long term. The base period for Historical data creation is the day. Layout The Layout field of the report descriptions can contain screenshots of the report output, and/or, a template table containing the column and the row titles that will be displayed on the report output (bold font table cells). Additionally the table can also contain the formulas for the indicators (on the white cells) and any other information that helps to provide a full description of the report concept (light grey cells). This other information is usually the performance indicator full name or auxiliary headers for groups of related performance indicators. Measurements Name of the Siemens scanners or measurement jobs required in order to have available all the data used by the application to compute the report. For the mapping between the measurements as defined above and SPOTS measurements, please refer to [22] chapter 2.2 - "Object classes and measurements". The list of counters for each SPOTS measurement and the object class to which it applies, is also provided within [22]. Performance Indicator Calculations based on performance measurement counters and aiming to provide meaningful results for the performance analysis. A significant part of Performance Indicators used in the performance reports have direct correspondence to key performance indicators which are defined in documents [19] (for GERAN) and [17] (for UTRAN).
