2. The fabric borrowed its name from the town
Chanderi, which is located in Madhya Pradesh.
This handmade cluster variety especially,
extracts a lot of patience, dedication and
craftsmanship in its weaving. The traditional
weaving is mainly done for manufacturing
sarees, suits, lehengas, dupattas, kurtis and etc.
The fabric is classified into three types: Chanderi
silk cotton, pure cotton and Chanderi cotton.
The wrap and weft of Chanderi cotton are 120s
cotton. Chanderi muslins are well named for
their softness and smoothness.
Its smooth and softness is only because of koli, a
local wild union used for sizing. Chanderi’s fabric
is woven with rich gold border and gold
embellishments with lotus roundels or butis,
spread all across the body.
Chanderi salwar suits are intricately woven by
hand interspersed with the delicacy of the extra
weft motifs. Different patterns like coins, flowers,
leaves, fruits, animals, stones and geometrics are
designed on the fabrics.
Keeping in the view by changing demands of the
customers, the cluster went forward to weave
another variety of fabric by combining the silk
wrap with a cotton weft. Nalferma, Jangla,
dandidar, Chatai, and Mehndi are striking
beautiful motifs of Chanderi.
Chanderi cotton and handloom salwar suits are
perfect wears during summer seasons. Chanderi
salwars with zari and patch borders are suitable
for college goers and working women. Designer
Chanderi sico salwars with heavy embroidery
works are apt for weddings and bridal
ceremonies.
