2. Female Empowerment across Cultures
When I think of women in leadership the first personwho comes to my mind is my
mother. A decade ago, she quit her corporatejob and began her own Inbound
Luxury Tourism company called Indian Vistas. With hard work and determination
she grew the company and it became successfulenough for my father to leave his
job and join the business.
Growing up in such an environment has made me a firm believer of the power of
women in business. I have seen the way my mother worked long hours, pursued
clients and attended trade-shows around the world in order to build her network.
She truly broke the norm of the conventional stay-at-home Indian mother. Hence,
the idea of females as entrepreneurs and leaders is nothing new to me.
However, the worldwide trend of fewer women in leadership positions and women
being paid lower than men still continues. Numerous women have broken the glass
ceiling and how, and yet their decisions are still questioned and they have to work
harder to prove themselves as compared to their male counterparts.
As a young girl entering the corporateworld, this phenomenon bothers me greatly,
which is why I wanted to do something which could potentially reverse this
unfortunate trend. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of working closely
with members of an organization called TalentNomics. TalentNomics is an
organization driven towards increasing the number of female leaders in companies
around the globe. Their board consists of inspiring women from different walks of
life who have proven themselves in their respective fields.
I am excited to continue working with TalentNomics, have the opportunity to learn
and grown amidst these amazing women and work towards their cause.
