Analysis of 5 newspapers

  1. 1. Task 2 Analysing Newspaper front pages
  2. 2. The Sun newspaper (tabloid) Bold letters, different colour to the majority of the newspaper text and with a different background that enhances the text. The Newspaper publisher needs to stand out Price of newspaper Headline of main national news story, written in bold letters to grab attention and stir the readers eyes away from the other stories on the newspapers so that the first text they read gives them a buzz making them want to read the rest of the newspaper. Date Picture to accompany main headline and give a feel to who or what they story is about. Not national news, but celeb news which grabs readers who are interested in celeb news Story with less important news values to the main headline, but placed on front of newspaper as it is bad news ‘bad weather’ which grabs readers attention Holidays usually cost thousands of pounds and to get a deal for one for £9:50 is going to grab readers attention straight away. Also involves picture of family to entice mums and dads.

The headline ‘cannibal mutant rats’ immediately puts across that this is a ‘bad news story’ which grabs attention more than a ‘good news’ story, according to the news values of Galtung and Ruge, which I agree with. Image of attractive woman appeals to male audience/readers and grabs their attention immediately. Long running nationally well known news story, accompanied with a picture that is also nationally well known, grabs attention immediately as readers want to keep up with the news story as it goes on. Date Price

Again, in bold larger font than the majority of the text on the front of the page. Grabs female audience’s attention due to the pink background and attractive wrinkle free woman that accompanies the advertisement. Makes audience believe if they try this detox, they will look like that woman. Smaller news story accompanied by a beautiful woman, could grab some male readers attention and female.
  6. 6. The Daily Mirror Newspaper publisher in bold letters to grab attention Date Price Competition to win large sum of money, also is free of charge to enter the competition.
