How to Create an Effective PowerPoint
1.
2. 1. Choose a Background
or Template
• A background or a template makes all the difference
in a presentation.
• Think about your topic, colour scheme and make it
eye catching and interesting
E.g.. Topic on Environment- Earthy colours(Green, brown, blue,
orange, red) and raw material template – sand, woven bark etc.
5. 2. Choose Font Colours well…
Choose a dominant font color to be used
throughout your presentation. This color should
be dominant for all your slides.
Be considerate in choosing the font colors. Make
sure that they are readable, and they are not
harsh to the eyes.
7. 3. Font
Don’t go for funky fonts that look like
spilt milk or hand writing.
They are too hard to read on a slide.
Go for one of the standard fonts,
such as Arial or Times New Roman.
8. 4. Never use Upper Cases
Just like in blogging, forum posting, instant
messaging (phone or web), or emailing, using
ALL CAPS is considered rude, and the same is
true for PowerPoint presentations.
9. 5. Use Graphics to
Compliment your Text
Graphics are a fun way of breaking the
monotone of your presentation.
Similarly, it is a wonderful way to emphasize
some points in the presentation.
Try: Microsoft Clip Art or Google
for screen shots
Beware: You must acknowledge the source
where you got the picture from
10. 6. Keep it Simple!
Don’t overload your
PowerPoint slides with too
much information or pictures.
3- 4 dot points is acceptable.
11. 7. Media and Audio
• YouTube and YouTube Convertor
• ITunes
• Other Media Programs…
12.
13. 8. Timing
For your assessment- 6 Slides
Maximum.
Don’t rush through your PowerPoint-
Make sure each slide matches the right
part in your speech.
New Idea = New Slide
14. 9. Check your Slides
Did you know you can spell-check in
PowerPoint? Its under the Tools menu so it’s an
easy final step to run a spell-check.
It may help to print out your presentation, and
get some one else to read it
PowerPoint has the ability of giving you a variety
of printouts for handing out (File- Print- Print
What- Handouts 2, 4, 6, 8)
15. Australian
Winter
Welcome to winter in Australia, which lasts from June to
August for most of the country. These months fall in the
dry season in our tropical north. You can ski and
snowboard down Victoria’s powdered slopes or snorkel
and dive the balmy waters of Queensland’s Great
Barrier Reef.
