      Dickens?
Charles Dickens was a writer of both plays
and novels. Charles Dickens was also known
as “The greatest novelist of the Victorian
period and the creator of some of the
world's most memorable fictional
characters”.
Why is he so Famous?


Charles Dickens was famous because of his
world renowned plays and memorable
fictional characters.
When did he live?

Charles Dickens lived in the Victorian
period. He was born on the 7  th of February

1812 in Landport, Portsmouth, England and
died on the 9th of June 1870 (aged 58) at
Gad's Hill Place, Higham, Kent, England
Where did he live?

Charles Dickens moved houses often in his
childhood. When he was young his family
moved to Norfolk Street, Bloomsbury. When
he was four they moved again to Chatham in
Kent where he lived until he was 11.
What did he do?

Charles Dickens wrote many famous books
that even now are praised. Unlike
Shakespeare, Charles Dickens was praised as
an excellent writer whereas Shakespeare
wasn't recognised until much later.
How did he become
     famous?
Charles Dickens became famous by starting
his career as a political journalist and getting
a reputation. Then he put sections (chapters)
in newspapers so the public could read it as
a serial.
How do people still
  know about him?
People still know about Charles Dickens
because of recent television programs such
as Great Expectations on the ABC. People still
know about Charles Dickens because his
copyright has expired and you can download
his books for free. Which makes them more
accessible on eReaders.
Why are his stories/novels/
so famous/loved/Significant?

 Charles Dickens’ stories/novels are still loved
 today because of the way they are written.
 They are written in a way that anyone who
 starts reading them, cant put them down.
 Charles Dickens are significant because his
 books are used in schools.
