Continuous improvementOur business is ensuring that our studentsmake progress and that we continue todevelop every studentTo do this we must know how well we as aschool are doing and how well are studentsare doing?We have set ourselves progress targets foreach key stageWe have published our curriculum andassessment timetables so students knowwhat they are learning and when and howthey will be assessedWe are reviewing our reportingarrangements butour reporting cycle has not changed thisyearour grade reports will not change this year

The Learning culture•We are reinforcing a learning culture in the school•We aim to•Keep students and parents informed•Published our assessments in advance soour learners know what to expect•Work together as one school to develop acommon assessment pathway•Ensure our progress decisions are open andtransparent. Decisions are taken for the finalreport based on published data collected byteacher assessment throughout the year.

The Learning cultureMonitoring progressThis is recorded in our student grade reports 6 times a year insecondaryWe grade effort and academic level.Our final annual reports are based on end of year examinationresults and the 6 reports.The Head teacher and Head of each learning phase reviewprogress at each report and reward effort and provide additionalsupport for those who are facing a challenge.We do not use any other criteria.
  5. 5. The Learning cultureYear 11 and 6thformThese years also take external examinations.GCSE and A levelThe Spanish department base their decisions on the 6 reportsand the final exam. The Head teacher is responsible foracademic results but considers the advice of the DirectoraTechnical and the Spanish DepartmentThe results of the each student who wishes to gain the Spanishterminal qualifications or Spanish University entry are sent tothe Spanish Education Department by the Head teacher

Assessment of learning at AISOur purpose is:to discover how well our students haveprogressed academicallyand for our teachers to understand what theyneed to do to enable every student to makeacademic progress and achieve their potentialHow we do itWe use a combination of Summative ( end of yeartests) and formative (on going check points attheir students the end of learning units)Each subject area will decide the most effectivemethod of gathering data

Assessment at AISSummative AssessmentIn order to achieve an overall picture of ourstudents performance teachers will draw onThe results of the 5 grade reports, End of yearexaminations and the achievement of Qualifications.Year 11 students have the opportunity to take GCSEexaminations and 6thform take AS & A levelStudents have the opportunity to study for Spanishqualifications which are based on teacherassessment + 4 GCSE passes and university entryqualificationsOur students also have the opportunity to takeSpanish at GCSE and A level
  8. 8. Assessment at AISFormative AssessmentThis is ongoing continuous assessmentEach subject area has produced timetablesfor assessment. These describe how ourstudents are assessed at the end of eachlearning unit. This can be used to support endof year grades for effort and progress.Assessment can take many forms: tests, orals,essays, projects, photographs,The results are used to inform the GradereportsEveryone! teachers, parents and students canuse the table to monitor and support progress

The CurriculumA word on our curriculum!We are moving forward by ensuring our curriculumprepares our students for the international modern world.We are trying to work together to better integrate theBritish International and Spanish CurriculumWe are investigating alternative exam boards andqualificationsWe are looking to achieve clear development througheach learning phase.Research has shown that students perform better whenthey know what they are going to learnWe have published our 2012/2013 curriculum summaryfor all to see.

Positive Well being•A word on Positive well being!•We believe our children will only do well if we consider theiremotional health and well being•We aim to weave this into our curriculum and ensure that ourmonitoring and assessment is clear and purposeful.Behaviour and attendance is very important to us but thisinformation should not be used to influence how well your childhas performed academically.Our heads of each learning phase will monitor Behaviour andAttendance and keep you informed•Happy children become confident and successful adults!
