Electrodeionization is the process of demineralize water using electricity. It utilizes electricity, ion exchange membranes and resin to deionize water and separate dissolved ion and impurities from water.

utilizes electricity, ion exchange membranes and resin to deionize water and

3. It is used across a variety of pure water systems and has industrial applications in
life sciences, pharmaceutical and semiconductor manufacturing processes. Unlike
other water purification methods, EDI systems do not use chemical treatments.
There are also continuous electrodeionization system where the current
regenerates the resin mass continuously.
4. One of the most important aspects in an EDI water system is the quality of feed
water. When the feed water with a low TDS is used, the system is capable of
producing water of very high purity levels. RO purification is sometimes used for
pre-treating feed water as poor feed water can easily exhaust the resin and result
in a degraded quality of the end product.
Reverse Osmosis removes a large part of the dissolved ions in the water. Like any
technology, an electrodeionization system also requires to be monitored for
quality and corrective measures need to be taken whenever necessary.
