Conceived by our founder Tadao Yoshida, it drives YKK continually to create value through innovative ideas and inventions, and to circulate the benefits throughout society – to employees, customers, suppliers, and the many communities where we live and work. It defines our commitment to every component part we produce no matter its size. YKK parts must function perfectly to enhance customers’ products and render maximum value to the finished whole.

In 1994 we adopted the YKK Environmental Charter for all YKK operations. It states that we are committed to harmony between abundance and health, and also to the ongoing well being of Earth.
    4. 5. History of YKK YKK was originally founded in Japan in 1934 by Tadao Yoshida as a zipper company. In the early years, it carried Mr. Yoshida’s name: Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha. That long Japanese name translates roughly into English as “Yoshida Company Limited.” “ YKK. Little Parts. Big Difference.” In 1994, under the direction of our current president, Tadahiro Yoshida, the name of the famous YKK brand became the name of the Company, or “YKK Corporation.” (At the same time, YKK Corporation in America became “YKK Corporation of America.”) Today, all YKK’s fastening products are marketed under the brand name YKK; all architectural products are marketed under the brand name YKK AP. And the famous initials of “YKK” remain the symbol for quality components – and innovation at work in partnership with customers. That’s why people say,

    24. 33. Seeking solutions for customers, YKK USA’s FTC created AutoLine ® . This machine automatically positions a slider for the operator. After he/she feeds the zipper chain through the slider, the newly formed zip is bottom-stopped and deposited in the tray. Then, a new slider is positioned for the same procedure. With this machine, the operator places the zipper chain on the bottom-stop anvil. Then, he/she activates a foot or finger switch to install the bottom stop.
    25. 34. JAFA3 JALS JALB AutoLine ® Machine System The AutoLine ® Machine System sews the zipper chain to the fly piece, automatically gaps it, bottom-stops it, attaches the slider, and then cuts and sorts the finished flys into bundles. With AutoLine, YKK creates solutions for customers.

    27. 36. Vertically Integrated Manufacturing At our National Manufacturing Center in Macon, YKK USA’s system of Vertically Integrated Manufacturing helps ensure quality, delivery, and cost. With this system, YKK manufactures everything possible from raw materials to the finished products and even huge processing machines in-house. As an example of this system, YKK manufactures our own brass at our BWP; by melting the purest copper and zinc together in a ratio perfect for zippers, we ensure the best quality brass for chain and sliders.
