French Reading Pimsleur
Pimsleur – French I Reading has been defined as "decoding the graphic material to the phonemic patterns of spoken language which have already been
mastered when reading is begun." To put it another way, reading consists of coming back to speech through the graphics symbols. In short, meanings
reside in the sounds of the spoken language. Speaking a language is the necessary first step to acquiring the ability to read a language with meaning.
The recorded portion of the reading materials will be found at the end of most units. Full instructions on how to proceed with the readings are contained
in the audio portion of the course. Pimsleur – French I – Lesson 1 – No Reading Pimsleur – French I – Lesson 2 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. Non. Bon. ...

Marvel 's Influence On Morals
Aaron Jeu Instructor Acevedo English 100 23 July 2015 Superheroes Influence on Morals Often times, one may observe that any young child's piece of
clothing or backpack is plastered with the face of some known or unknown superhero portrayed in popular culture, on television and in the movies.
These superheroes are found throughout American society. Because superheroes are growing more popular amongst mass marketing for motion
pictures and their merchandise is constantly targeting children and young adults, these iconic figures have been assimilated into American culture.
Through the years, the infiltration of superheroes have become one with the everyday lives of young individuals as they are used to have a positive
influence on society's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the surface level, children are able to learn and determine these behaviors in a black and white manner. As a child matures, it is necessary for an
adult, an educator, or a parent to come into play to properly foster and edify the child's moral understanding. These depictions of superheroes fighting
crime in itself are not detrimental to society on its own. It is the interpretation of what goes on through the form of entertainment and its long–term
effects that it has on an individual if misconceived. Others may beg to differ and advocate that such examples of violent or aggressive behaviors
through video games (Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Destiny, etc.) are destructive and immoral influences on individuals. While it is case by case
for every individual, Gerard Jones, writer for Marvel Comics and many other comic book publishers, asserts that exposure to violent media does have
its positive impacts on an individual's morals and well–being. In his essay, "Violent Media Is Good for Kids," Jones recounts his experience as a child
being walled "between the crudest elements of American pop culture" because his parents taught him that "rage was something to be overcome and

Assassin Counter Culture
The bi–racial rap group Assassin can relate specifically to traditional American Rap fans in France as their sound is very similar due to the beats
that they use for their songs. Similar in sounds to rappers alike the Notorious B.I.G, N.W.A (N*gga's With Attitude), Dr Dre, Tupac Shakir and the
ladder of 90's American rap legends, Assassin use backing tracks that are very repetitive in order to create a sustained beat allowing listeners to focus
on their lyrics whether they were part of a political statement or spoke about minorities or violence. This was through the technique of scratching
vinyls, creating a repetitive beat, firstly experimented by Grandwizard Theodore (Snapper, 2004). In "Esclave de votre sociГ©tГ©" (1991), the group
refers to their ethnic identity and socio–cultural group, referring to them as a counter–culture to the "norm" of the time as the first lyrics say "Je ne
veux pas faire de politique, ma mission est artistique" ("I do not want to do politics, my mission is artistic")... "ArrГЄtez de me mentir, nous en
sommes esclaves/ Esclaves de leurs dГ©cisions, esclaves de leurs passions /Ils jouent un jeu, et nous en sommes les pions" ("Stop lying to me, we are
slaves/ Slaves of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Channeling American artists alike Dr Dre and Notorious B.I.G already create a niche through the music and the themes of politics, minorities and
violence, the ethnic group of a "ghetto" audience. The ethnic group represents those of the slums of France and how there is a sense of being used by
the government or not being taken care of by the government, using Assassin as the voice of the ethnic group. Largely as a counter–culture, both
African–French and white French citizens are represented through the multi–cultural rap group, indicating that the music is for both races, as the ghetto
consists of both black and

Surrealism And Surrealism In Dalli's Dali By Dawn Ades
The book Dali by Dawn Ades is a sophisticated biography of Salvador Dali. It starts with his early years of works and continues in how he found his
own way of painting regarding both technique and concept. At the first pages of chapter three his attempt to be a surrealist and surrealists reaction this
attempt is been discussed. Then, the impact of Freud ideas on Dali's paintings and psycho–analysis are what writer explains. On chapter four it is
shown that how Dali was influenced by the notion of paranoia and how he used it in his works as a technique which called paranoiac–critical method.
This essay includes three parts. The first part is a precise summary of chapters three and four of the aforementioned book. The second part is dedicated

However, he did not name it until 1933. The technique was based on people interpretations regardless of reason or meaning. He believed every object,
person, act, behavior has a meaning and it depends on each individual how to interpret them. In fact, things have multiple meanings and what people
interpret comes from what they know and what experiences they have had in their life. The more people dig in a painting, the more they would
understand. When he started using paranoiac–critical method he had been influenced by Jacques Lacan's idea about paranoia. A paranoid person sees
what others see but interpret it as s scary or irritating notion. A 'delirium of interpretation' is what he focused on and tried to use in his paintings to
evoke different ideas and meanings out of his

Rhetorical Analysis Of Drafting The Elderly By David Rothkopf
Aaron Jeu
Instructor Acevedo
English 100
23 June 2015
Drafting the Elderly into Service, Just Kidding From time to time, this question may run through a younger individual's mind: "What good are old
people for?" American society stereotypes the elderly as unwell, feeble, unproductive and even a financial burden to the government and families. In
the layered excerpt, A Proposal to Draft America's Elderly, author David Rothkopf utilizes literary devices such as syntax, sarcastic tone, and style to
stimulate discussion over how the nation is unsure of what to do with the elderly. However, Rothkopf fails to realize that America's infrastructure and
labor force is already designed to continue to support these individuals in retirement. In the beginning of his introduction, Rothkopf engages the
audience in comical imagery to begin his proposition for drafting the elderly. He describes the elderly as "bikers with long grey ponytails" and men on
beaches "who are long past the age when they should be seen in Speedos" (Page 53). He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He utilizes an outlandishly, ironic tone to stir up emotion and thoughts about how America should handle its elderly citizens. In his ninth
paragraph, he states, "it is unavoidable that conflicts do occur, were we to field an army of the elderly, we would eliminate war's greatest tragedy"
(Page 54). The idea of putting the elderly to war is absurd and would imply that they are physically capable of combat as well as being better suited
than the young. Another instance of his sarcasm can be located in the beginning of his last paragraph. With confidence, Rothkopf states, "given the
obvious merits of such a program, I think it is fair that no man or woman take issue with it unless he or she has a superior idea" (Page 54). By
mentioning this, he enables the audience to ponder and take its own stance on the pressing

Marathe's Identity In Jeu De Train Prochain
Given the choice the members of the AFR have made to participate in the Jeu de Train Prochain, these men are trying to metaphorically counter
American fate. They seek to slow what they think of as the destructive but indefatigable course of capitalist politics, specifically that of dangerous
waste policies that disable Canadians involuntarily. They are both the test subject and footswitch of the trolley thought problem. Marathe's identity is
first and foremost displayed throughout his loyalty to his separatist organization and his wife, whose costly health issues motivate him in the AFR
(Wallace 88). Born without a skull as a result of pollution "from the toxicities in association of our country's invasion on paper," she has lived a
struggle filled life presumably at American fault (Wallace 779). He assumes Americans act on the selfishness he possesses, one insatiable by
compromise, and vocally fixates on renouncing utilitarianism. Pages 420 to 430 follow a conversation between Marathe and ... Show more content on

Incandenza is one of the only characters who arguably embraces predeterminism. In one of only several passages to use first–person tense, Jim's
interior monologue consists entirely of his father lecturing him. At the age of six (?) he is imprisoned by his parent's use of future tense, having
been told, "you are going to be a great tennis player," "you will be truly great," and "you will be poetry in motion" (Wallace 158). He inherits his
love of film from his mother, who once acted as an extra alongside Marlon Brando, and his love of tennis from his father. At no time does he stray
from either of these ambitions; he founds the Enfield Tennis Academy and becomes a prolific film maker. But the chemical influence of depression
and alcohol are overall instrumental in his final product. Addicted to the lure of death by depression and alcoholism, Jim creates Infinite Jest consisting
of two of the things he finds fatally addictive: his mistress Joelle Van Dyne and

French Reading Pimsleur

  • 1. French Reading Pimsleur Pimsleur – French I Reading has been defined as "decoding the graphic material to the phonemic patterns of spoken language which have already been mastered when reading is begun." To put it another way, reading consists of coming back to speech through the graphics symbols. In short, meanings reside in the sounds of the spoken language. Speaking a language is the necessary first step to acquiring the ability to read a language with meaning. The recorded portion of the reading materials will be found at the end of most units. Full instructions on how to proceed with the readings are contained in the audio portion of the course. • 2. Marvel 's Influence On Morals Aaron Jeu Instructor Acevedo English 100 23 July 2015 Superheroes Influence on Morals Often times, one may observe that any young child's piece of clothing or backpack is plastered with the face of some known or unknown superhero portrayed in popular culture, on television and in the movies. These superheroes are found throughout American society. Because superheroes are growing more popular amongst mass marketing for motion pictures and their merchandise is constantly targeting children and young adults, these iconic figures have been assimilated into American culture. Through the years, the infiltration of superheroes have become one with the everyday lives of young individuals as they are used to have a positive influence on society's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the surface level, children are able to learn and determine these behaviors in a black and white manner. As a child matures, it is necessary for an adult, an educator, or a parent to come into play to properly foster and edify the child's moral understanding. These depictions of superheroes fighting crime in itself are not detrimental to society on its own. It is the interpretation of what goes on through the form of entertainment and its long–term effects that it has on an individual if misconceived. Others may beg to differ and advocate that such examples of violent or aggressive behaviors through video games (Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Destiny, etc.) are destructive and immoral influences on individuals. While it is case by case for every individual, Gerard Jones, writer for Marvel Comics and many other comic book publishers, asserts that exposure to violent media does have its positive impacts on an individual's morals and well–being. In his essay, "Violent Media Is Good for Kids," Jones recounts his experience as a child being walled "between the crudest elements of American pop culture" because his parents taught him that "rage was something to be overcome and cooperation and cooperation ... Assassin Counter Culture The bi–racial rap group Assassin can relate specifically to traditional American Rap fans in France as their sound is very similar due to the beats that they use for their songs. Similar in sounds to rappers alike the Notorious B.I.G, N.W.A (N*gga's With Attitude), Dr Dre, Tupac Shakir and the ladder of 90's American rap legends, Assassin use backing tracks that are very repetitive in order to create a sustained beat allowing listeners to focus on their lyrics whether they were part of a political statement or spoke about minorities or violence. This was through the technique of scratching vinyls, creating a repetitive beat, firstly experimented by Grandwizard Theodore (Snapper, 2004). In "Esclave de votre sociГ©tГ©" (1991), the group refers to their ethnic identity and socio–cultural group, referring to them as a counter–culture to the "norm" of the time as the first lyrics say "Je ne veux pas faire de politique, ma mission est artistique" ("I do not want to do politics, my mission is artistic")... At the first pages of chapter three his attempt to be a surrealist and surrealists reaction this attempt is been discussed. Then, the impact of Freud ideas on Dali's paintings and psycho–analysis are what writer explains. On chapter four it is shown that how Dali was influenced by the notion of paranoia and how he used it in his works as a technique which called paranoiac–critical method. In fact, things have multiple meanings and what people interpret comes from what they know and what experiences they have had in their life. The more people dig in a painting, the more they would understand. When he started using paranoiac–critical method he had been influenced by Jacques Lacan's idea about paranoia. • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of Drafting The Elderly By David Rothkopf Aaron Jeu Instructor Acevedo English 100 23 June 2015 Drafting the Elderly into Service, Just Kidding From time to time, this question may run through a younger individual's mind: "What good are old people for?" American society stereotypes the elderly as unwell, feeble, unproductive and even a financial burden to the government and families. In the layered excerpt, A Proposal to Draft America's Elderly, author David Rothkopf utilizes literary devices such as syntax, sarcastic tone, and style to stimulate discussion over how the nation is unsure of what to do with the elderly. However, Rothkopf fails to realize that America's infrastructure and labor force is already designed to continue to support these individuals in retirement. In the beginning of his introduction, Rothkopf engages the audience in comical imagery to begin his proposition for drafting the elderly. He describes the elderly as "bikers with long grey ponytails" and men on beaches "who are long past the age when they should be seen in Speedos" (Page 53). He ... In his ninth paragraph, he states, "it is unavoidable that conflicts do occur, were we to field an army of the elderly, we would eliminate war's greatest tragedy" (Page 54). The idea of putting the elderly to war is absurd and would imply that they are physically capable of combat as well as being better suited than the young. Another instance of his sarcasm can be located in the beginning of his last paragraph. With confidence, Rothkopf states, "given the obvious merits of such a program, I think it is fair that no man or woman take issue with it unless he or she has a superior idea" (Page 54). By mentioning this, he enables the audience to ponder and take its own stance on the pressing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Marathe's Identity In Jeu De Train Prochain Given the choice the members of the AFR have made to participate in the Jeu de Train Prochain, these men are trying to metaphorically counter American fate. They seek to slow what they think of as the destructive but indefatigable course of capitalist politics, specifically that of dangerous waste policies that disable Canadians involuntarily. They are both the test subject and footswitch of the trolley thought problem. Marathe's identity is first and foremost displayed throughout his loyalty to his separatist organization and his wife, whose costly health issues motivate him in the AFR (Wallace 88). Born without a skull as a result of pollution "from the toxicities in association of our country's invasion on paper," she has lived a struggle filled life presumably at American fault (Wallace 779). Infinite Jest "The U.S.A. of You" (MAJOR CONSTRUCTION ZONE) Rooted in a rich speculative backdrop, David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest is set in O.N.A.N, a interdependent North American state where what is currently known as America, Mexico, and Canada are one. Its acronym may allude to the biblical Onan, signifying this union of nations as a travesty of wasted potential (Hayles 685). It houses a world of cyclical addictions to drugs, overthinking, and entertainment at dangerous costs. Scholar Katherine Hayles has noted that, "there is no real "inter" in this version of Interdependence, only a pretense of hygiene created by the refusal to recognize those parts of oneself which are considered unclean" (685). The thought experiment's most common variation proposes that a test subject has the ability to save five people by flipping a switch and having it hit one person instead (Kahane). Another proposal is the "footswitch" variation, which proposes a test subject has the ability to save five people by pushing one otherwise uninvolved person onto the tracks. While deontology is concerned with whether man has obligation to act in the problem, utilitarianism proposes that the subject should always sacrifice the life of one to save as many as possible. Utilitarianism, despite its seemingly logical appeal, is not psychologically natural for most individuals. One study found that those who make utilitarian decisions in the trolley experiment tend to have decreased sense of responsibility, higher than average levels of testosterone, increased levels of anger, and low levels of serotonin (Duke). Those with high cognitive ability are more likely to be utilitarians, but the mindset is also a consequence of cognitive impairment resulting from inebriation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Nude Photographs Censorship The relative immaturity of today's world has caused a great deal of calamity over certain issues. As an example, one main conflict has arisen between the general public of today and an artistic form that truly depicts the human body. This problem has arisen in museums of today, which by definitions are locations where objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural importance are displayed. Nude photographs are appropriate, if not necessary in most museums of today because of their relative significance to our own backgrounds. Without going into too much detail, every facet of each human is different from that of another and neglecting that difference would be ignoring the artform that is the body. Due to the immaturity of today's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All forms of censorship seek to hide something from viewers, whether it be blurring nudity on television or excluding it from places of learning where it is studied and observed, museums. Nudity is appropriate in museums to the public, however, in some cases, it has been entirely censored. Several lawsuits have ensued and in some cases, the museums have won, and in others the cases have been dismissed at an early stage. Facebook even blocked the French art museum, the Jeu de Paume, for twenty four hours after it posted a nude photo that would come to be displayed. Freedom of expression is very real, and to censor this pivotal right by not allowing the showcasing of nudity in museums is technically a crime. "Artists have the right to express themselves. Curators have the right to choose the expression they think matters most. And the rest of us have the right to see that expression, and judge those choices for ourselves. If anyone's offended by any work in any museum, they have the easiest redress: They can vote with their feet, and avoid the art they don't like" (Gopnik 1). This quote taken from a Washington Post article puts the entire argument into perspective. It is the right of museums to showcase what they deem is of value and it not up to the general public to advocate for its removal. As long as the curator of any given museum deems a piece worthy for the general public, then it most definitely should be shown. It is hard for some to realize the difference between the seemingly pornographic and artistic. Yet, museums make the distinction and only house educational pieces, eliminating all of non–historical, non–scientific, non–cultural, and non–artistic significance. Nude photographs are appropriate in museums because of their educational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The History Of Golf A game that is now included in popular sports championships across continents has its roots deep in history. We have heard of English royals playing the games in early 17th century especially in south east of Scotland and beyond to the far north, to the remote Orkney Islands. But the historical beginning of gold is even further that. Since the earliest of times, man has used a stick and a rock to turn his drudgery into a game. There was a phase when he swung the stick at the rock and propelled it towards some predetermined point. This activity, it can be deduced, was the precursor of golf. Interestingly though, it was also the precursor to just about all the sports that need a ball and some object (like a baseball or cricket bat and even the billiards stick) to propel it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since there were no political boundaries in the earliest times, no definite answer can be given to this question. And therefore, many countries invented it. With the presence of sticks and the objects that could be hit with it, there was what we now call 'golf'. Although the names did not appear in those times there were many games of early man that can be compared to or be termed as originators of golf. Almost all geographical areas around the world have some claim to the beginning of golf. When we look at these areas with their modern names, Scotland has the most cherished claim. And then there are Rome, England, France, Holland, Belgium, and also Laos. • 10. Critical Analysis Of The Game Of Love And Chance The Game of Love and Chance is a play written by Pierre de Marivaux (1688–1763), who is a French novelist and dramatist that is now considered one of the best French playwrights of the eighteenth century. He has written over thirty plays that focus more towards romantic comedy. Marivaux was born in Paris, France on February 4th, 1688, and deceased on February 12th, 1963 in Paris. The game of Love and Chance (also called "Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard" in French), is a romantic comedy genre, and the main subject of it is love. It was first performed on the 23rd of January 1730 at the Comedie–Italienne, where Marivaux's plays were mostly performed. Originally, in 1697, the theatre Comedie–Italienne was shut down due to offensive contents, and the companies were banished from France. However, in 1716, the companies were permitted back to France, and from there, the companies focused on the works of French playwrights, more specifically on Pierre de Marivaux's plays. An important category that The Game of Love and Chance belongs to is comedy of manners, which means "a comedy that satirizes behavior in a particular social group, especially the upper classes". The play used comedy in order to explore the political issues of class and satirized behaviors. The play is about assumed identity, the ultimate triumph of true love, and the tyranny of social taboos. The play also considers the social status and the importance it played in the eighteenth century courtship and marriage. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The French Revolution And The End Of The Nineteenth Century The French Revolution had general reasons basic to every one of the insurgencies of the West toward the end of the eighteenth century and specific causes that clarify why it was by a wide margin the most vicious and the most all around critical of these transformations. The main of the general reasons was the social structure of the West. The primitive administration had been debilitated orderly and had as of now vanished in parts of Europe. The inexorably various and prosperous tip top of well off average citizens–vendors, producers, and experts, frequently called the bourgeoisie–sought to political force in those nations where it didn 't as of now have it. The workers, large portions of whom claimed land, had accomplished an enhanced way of life and instruction and needed to dispose of the last remnants of feudalism to obtain the full privileges of landowners and to be allowed to expand their possessions. Moreover, from around 1730, higher expectations for everyday life had diminished the death rate among grown–ups impressively. This, together with different variables, had prompted an expansion in the number of inhabitants in Europe remarkable for a few centuries: it multiplied somewhere around 1715 and 1800. For France, which with 26 million occupants in 1789 was the most populated nation of Europe, the issue was generally intense. The Tape family endures culture and identity change and success but also challenges on their quest. The Tapes were fixed on the idea of living the "American Dream" and getting rid of their Chinese culture to essentially live a better life. The Lucky Ones demonstrate that at a time of settlement and rejection due to ethnicity that racism was strong and how much it impacted immigration. This book seems like it would target an audience of immigrants who were trying to keep astray from their original life. Also, the book picks up on racism and hatred towards certain nationalities at the time that are not caucasian. While we will not plumb the depths of the beliefs, philosophies and rituals associated with chaos magick, it is built essentially on the consciousness/mentalism model of magic where the subconscious mind is the primary generator of one's reality while connected to outside powers in the universe that will align certain event and things into one's life. This model is deeply influenced by the Greek Magical Papyri as well as the Pyramid Texts and the Book of the Dead. In Carroll's magical system, he would advocate one to reach a state of "Gnosis," through the means of yoga, tantra, psychoactive substances, sex, chanting, drumming, dancing, dreaming, etc. The aim of the chaos magician is to concentrate on an abstract idea of one's desire while using one's altered state of consciousness to bring about subconsciousness into operation for one's wishes to manifest. Some people believe that society can prevent people from committing such horrific acts. However, contrary to the belief that brutality can disappear, the terrible acts by humans are not going to disappear because brutality is human nature. People are naturally cruel, and regardless of people 's effort or the environment, one is inclined to be brutal. • 20. Manifesto Of Surrealism What is surrealism? Surrealism is a "revolution," "pure psychic automatism," "an attack of conscience," and a "new mode of pure expression" according to its founder AndrГ© Breton. In his highly controversial texts, "Manifestoes of Surrealism," Breton exposes us to this new term he coined along with his colleague Philippe Soupault in homage to Guillaume Apollinaire, someone whom they believed had followed the discipline, and he explains the phenomenon in detail so that more can become aware and utilize the technique. Drawing heavy influences from Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx, Breton reveals to us the limitless opportunities of surrealism and how it frees us from everyday reality, similar to how the exoteric texts challenged us to question our beliefs. I The first "Manifesto of Surrealism" was published in 1924 succeeding dadaism, an art movement of the European avant–garde often regarded as the movement that brought forth postmodern art. At the time of its publication, Europe was still reeling from World War I and art was very much political. Breton and other surrealists wanted to break free from the conventional art if the times and express the imagination as revealed in dreams. Thus, the "Manifesto of Surrealism" came about in which Breton discussed the importance of merging dream and reality. A surcharge, something paid above and beyond the good you're paying for. At times one might burst boughs of anger in coloured word as your initial calculations on what you were going to pay are wrong. Wait a minute, those taxes are working for us– or are they? If you look at the economy at a macro level, it doesn't take a genius to see that taxes are generally good. When looking at the expenditure approach GDP=C+I+G+Nx hence one can conclude that an increase in G equates a higher GDP. That conclusion isn't without merit, (See Fig. 1&2.) however, it certainly has it's flaws. Jean–FranГ§ois Minardi, attempts to challenge this global approach in his economic note 'The Unintended Consequences of Taxes on Tobacco,Alcohol and Gambling'. Attacking what really make's up these so called 'Sin Taxes' he says "Sin taxes are presented as a way of increasing government revenue while simultaneously helping reduce consumption of targeted products.[..]if the first is achieved and consumption of these products starts to decline, this will lead to a reduction in government tax receipts.1" Indicated that if the motive of the government was indeed to reduce consumption, they'd subsequently want to decrease GDP. • 25. The French Revolution And The American Revolution The French Revolution: The event that led to the transformation of the globe into the world we know it as today. One of the most revolutionary events in human history was started by a group of individuals sitting in the Palace of Versailles who decided that enough was enough and that the only answer to the injustices of the ruling regime was Revolution. These people eventually became known as the National Constituent Assembly, or, colloquially, the National Assembly. Over the course of two years, this National Assembly sparked a revolution, established a new form of government in one of the oldest European nations, and made a new society based on the principles created during the Enlightenment. The National Assembly initially grew out of a national debt issue brought about by French involvement in the Seven Years ' War and the American Revolution (SparkNotes Editors, 2005). The amount of debt that France had built up due to these two wars, plus the debt racked up by domestic spending and corruption, was so large that, according to Bentley and Ziegler, "half of government revenue went to the national debt" (p. 627). This, in turn, caused King Louis XVI to call a session of the Estates–General, which is called to order during times of great tension and stress within the country. The Estates–General was essentially a legislature that was broken up into three equal groups of representatives. These representatives represented the First Estate (clergy and members of the ... The emotions that people go through are something that cannot be avoided; however, they can be manipulated. Managers, leaders, CEO'S of companies learn to do this by experience and training. They manipulate employee's emotions with the purpose of achieving better performance and satisfy an organization's goals. Although people have always had different emotions, the notion that managers need to care for employee's satisfaction and happiness is newly implemented in the workplace. In this paper, I will be explaining the impact of attitudes in the workplace, how mood, emotions, attitudes and behavior affect job performance and I will implement the point of view of the CEO of the Defense Commissary Agency, Mr. Joseph Jeu. Attitudes are defined as "Relatively stable feelings or beliefs that are directed towards specific persons, groups, ideas, jobs or other objects" (P.358). Due to the Hawthorne effect, studies suggested that attitudes, moral and production were closely linked in a positive relationship. We could only imagine that organizations were fast to hear about this and implement actions to improve the overall moral. However, this was not easy for them since they had to study worker's behaviors in order to know what would be satisfying and what would not be. In addition, they had to figure out how to measure satisfaction. According to Landy, new variables to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Social Structure Of The West 8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social structure of the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step–by–step and had already disappeared in parts of Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy commoners–merchants, manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie–aspired to political power in those countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of whom owned land, had attained an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to increase their holdings. Furthermore, from about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the mortality rate among adults considerably. This, together with other factors, had led to an increase in the population of Europe unprecedented for several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and 1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in 1789 was the most populated country of Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty Images]A larger population created a greater demand for food and consumer goods. The other player chooses a hand, the color checker in that hand determines the color with which he plays. The object is to eliminate all opposing checkers or to create a situation in which it is impossible for your opponent to make any move. Normally, the victory will be due to complete elimination. Black moves first and play proceeds alternately. From their initial positions, checkers may only move forward. There are two types of moves that can be made, capturing moves and non–capturing moves. Non–capturing moves are simply a diagonal move forward from one square to an adjacent square. (Note that the white squares are never used.) Capturing moves occur when a player "jumps" an opposing piece. This is also done on the diagonal and can only happen when the square behind (on the same diagonal) is also open. This means that you may not jump an opposing piece around a corner. On a capturing move, a piece may make multiple jumps. • 33. The Baroque School Of French Organ Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition. Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris, Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone–color. Early French organs had an array of principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu. With the values and beliefs that are taught to people in their childhood, it allows for a better society where people are not in constant chaos. Media and technology has advanced to the point where people are no longer concerned about the chaos that exists outside of their own personal lives. In "Great to Watch," Maggie Nelson details why people seem to enjoy this virtual violence seen in media and supports this idea with references from historical and culture examples. She claims that people are captivated by the stream of violence and do nothing about it because it is so enticing to them. In "The Power of Context," Malcolm Gladwell analyzes the effects an environment or situation can have a person despite their beliefs or values. The morals and values that were learned in one's childhood seems to change when one is put into a certain situation that is out of their control. A person'smorality is able to change in an instance when one is put in extreme situations. By understanding morality and what is right from wrong, people can achieve it through collective standards. People are less likely to question and please themselves first when they are put in a group rather than being singled out. • 35. Carpe Diem Analysis Aaron Jeu Ms. Wagner English 1B 22 June 2017 Rough Draft: Life and Death "Carpe Diem" is a Latin phrase, which often tends to denote a significant literary theme found in popular culture, including Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society or Green Day's song, "Carpe Diem." However, it is also especially common in lyrical poetry. According to Oxford Dictionary, it is "used [as encouragement] to make the most of the present life while it lasts" or "live for the moment." Both Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" and Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" explore the notion that individuals should endeavor life to its fullest. In his poem, Thomas expresses a very passionate, pleading voice to deeply allure his audience. In contrast, Frost communicates his approach in a more pensive, practical, subtle style that slyly provokes the audience to think about their own fate. The collective theme of the two poems is similar in that both explain that death is imminent, that individuals should not take for granted the time they have left on Earth, and that people need courage to face death, and to realize that death can wait. However, Thomas utilizes an ardent, compelling tone to assert his beliefs that individuals should partake in a more dynamic role and embrace what will happen to them during their lives.
