  • WELCOME the group to the ministry and to this workshop. INTRODUCE yourself, and provide a little bit of your professional and spiritual background. EXPLAIN that we will spend about 30 minutes discussing the basic principles behind writing an effective resume, which will include some time for questions and answers. ASK if there are any questions before we begin.

The Importance of a Resume Spending time on your resume up-front will increase your success <ul><li>Many times a resume is your first impression on a potential employer </li></ul><ul><li>Your resume needs to stand out </li></ul><ul><li>A resume needs to speak for you, and clearly communicate why you are qualified for the job </li></ul><ul><li>A strong resume will help you get the interview </li></ul>

Effective Resume Writing <ul><li>May need to customize based upon position you are seeking </li></ul><ul><li>Several versions of your resume </li></ul><ul><li>Employers are looking for someone who “stands out from the crowd” </li></ul><ul><li>Highlight accomplishments, not just responsibilities </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t embellish </li></ul><ul><li>Use a format that is universal (.pdf) </li></ul>Make your resume unique

Effective Resume Writing <ul><li>Results-oriented </li></ul><ul><li>Clear, concise and free of grammatical errors </li></ul><ul><li>Free of electronic edits </li></ul><ul><li>Account for any gaps between positions </li></ul><ul><li>No more than two pages </li></ul><ul><li>Brainstorm training, seminars, certifications that you may have forgotten about </li></ul>A well-written resume is critical
