February 2014 THE{FULL}LIFE TOUCHMARK ON WEST CENTURY Touchmark hosts tea tasting in honor of National Hot Tea Month Tea is the perfect way to warm up, especially during National Hot Tea Month (January). Deb Sauer, a certified tea sommelier, and Steep Me a Cup of Tea hosted a tea tasting at Touchmark. People treated their taste buds to a variety of teas, like green and rooibos, and learned the health benefits of each.

FITNESS CLUB AQUATIC NEWS Focus on the heart February is American Heart Month, and according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. PERSONAL TRAINER Staying active and exercising can keep your heart (as well as your body) healthy. Research is showing that a combination of cardiovascular exercise and strength training is ideal. Visit the club, and learn what classes and services are available. The CDC also list these helpful tips on its website (http://www.cdc.gov/features/ AWARD heartmonth/ ) for staying heart healthy and keeping up a fitness program: • Don’t become overwhelmed. • Don’t go it alone. Exercising with a friend is a great way to stick to your program. • Don’t get discouraged. • Reward yourself. Find fun things to do to LIFE STORY decrease your stress. • Eat a healthy diet. • Maintain a healthy weight. • Exercise regularly. • Monitor your blood pressure. • Don’t smoke. PERSONAL CARE • Limit alcohol use. • Have your cholesterol checked. • Manage your diabetes. • Take your medicine. This month, as we focus on heart health, it is also helpful to remember the signs of a heart attack. The CDC states that the five major symptoms of a heart attack are: • Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck, or back. • Feeling weak, light-headed, or faint. • Chest pain or discomfort. • Pain or discomfort in arms or shoulder. •Shortness of breath. • If you think that you or someone you know is having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
