Presenter: Tony Restell, Founder of www.Social-Hire.com

Whatever industry you work in, right now there are executives who are furthering their careers through the intelligent use of social media. You could be one of them if you just knew how best to leverage these tools - and that's what I focus on in the second part of this presentation.

More worryingly, there are also jobs being filled in your industry that you weren't even aware of. That's because those openings are being filled via social channels rather than ever being openly advertised. In the first part of this session I concentrate on helping you understand how to go about searching for a new job in today's economy - and the crucial role that your social media presence now plays. Trust me, you almost certainly haven't taken all the steps you need to have taken to address this shift!

I'm very grateful for all the business leads and help that my network have provided me with over the years. So I ran this webinar as my way of giving something back. I hope it also proves helpful to you - and if you'd like more insights like this simply follow us:

  22. 22. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: How Employee Referral Schemes Used To Work Pre-Social Networks  Jobs manually circulated via email by HR  Employees had to take time to think of connections who might be suitable / interested  Employees had to craft messages to each individual manually >>> Produced high quality hires, but in very small numbers
  23. 23. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: How Employee Referral Schemes Leverage Social Networks  Employees grant access to their social networks  New job requirements  automatic scan of employees’ networks to identify matches  Employees £$£$ financially incentivised to forward on opportunities to people who are a match >>> Produces high quality hires, but in significant numbers

Good for clicks. Worst for quick-response conversations.  Best for quickly building relationships. Best for quick-response conversations. Can provide significant clicks.  Greatest time investment. But very important for search engine rankings and has a highly engaged core user base.

  29. 29. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 1: Cultivate New Relationships In Your Industry Every Week  Always be looking for opportunities to strike up new relationships  Set yourself a weekly target or a regular routine that ensures growing your network becomes a habitual part of your working life
  30. 30. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 2: Focus On Engaging With People and Helping Others - NOT Self Promotion  Find ways to help other people and to share content / insights that will enrich their lives. This makes people tune in to what you have to say.  Promoting yourself or your services should be done sparingly, it can be a major turn-off. But get the balance right and your promotional messages can be very effective.
  31. 31. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 3: Connect With People and Foster Relationships In Advance Of Needing Help  Social networking is like your bank account – you need to have put value into your network before you can receive value from it.  Appearing desperate is one of the top social networking mistakes I see even the most professional of business people make.
  32. 32. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 4: Share Outstanding Content / Advice / Assistance Whenever You Can  You want to build yourself to a position where people in your network are eager to see what they’ll learn from you next.  You want to help others when you are able to, so that they in turn will want to help you when they can.
  33. 33. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 5: Raise Awareness of Other People's Work  Help people market their work, articles they’ve been featured in, campaigns being run by their company, etc.  Help raise their profile and help them build their following. They will want to reciprocate, so promoting them ends up promoting you.
  34. 34. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 6: Proactively Make Introductions (Become a Connector)  Proactively make introductions to help your network win work / forge partnerships / secure employment / make hires.  If you facilitate any of these things happening, you will have had a major impact on that person’s professional life – and they will in time find ways to reciprocate.
  35. 35. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 7: Go The Extra Mile To Help Contacts Overcome Challenges They’re Facing  Helping someone in their hour of need is always going to be remembered; and the more grave the situation they face, the more you jumping to their side is going to be remembered!  eg. someone's facing a challenge that's derailing their career; or finds themselves out of work; or perhaps is way off hitting target this quarter.
  36. 36. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 8: Schedule Time To Devote To Your Social Media Success  Success requires a consistent commitment of time and a long- term outlook.  You need to be ever present in your channels to be able to jump in and support people when it's needed.  Your activity levels need to be consistent so that people continue to look out for your next communications.
  37. 37. Presented by Tony Restell --- Founder of Social-Hire.com Follow us on: Networking Tip 9: Don’t Be Afraid To Schedule and To Automate  Investigate tools like Buffer and Hootsuite to schedule updates in advance.  Look at IFTTT to see what social media tasks you could automate.  But remember – automation needs to be accompanied with a regular real-life presence!
