Stoke Croft Riot 21st April, 2011.

On the 21 st of April 2011, there was a riot in an area of Bristol. The riot started at 9pm that evening. Approximately a total of 1300 people were involved, while only a 130 officers were deployed.

The Aftermath.

The riot finally died down as police had to withdraw after facing missiles propelled at them, e.g. Bottles, Stones and petrol bombs.

When police returned later they discovered that the Tesco express had been attacked with the windows smashed and graffiti.

But why?

The Stoke Croft Riots which occurred on the 21 st of April. 2011 was an dispute from the local residents to the opening of a new Tesco express in the area.

The local residents, young and old, disagreed with the opening of this Tesco and ran an long campaign against the opening. The campaigns slogan was; “No Tesco In Stokes Croft.” as simple as it seems it was graffiti all over the street. It was on blank walls, on the abandon carriage works, and really anything which was flat! "No Tesco In Stokes Croft!"
But how does it link Mumbai.

One way the stokes croft riot and dispute about Tesco is linked to Mumbai is that a well known urban artist; Banksy made a piece of art to remember the riot. But also Banksy designed a intro to the Simpsons ™ which some of you may have seen.

If not the intro show workers working in unfair, unclean and unsafe environment. The intro shows you what a sweat shop looks like. This is connected to Mumbai as Mumbai is a big location for sweat shops that employ young children.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturevideo/tvandradiovideo/8055186/Banksy-tags-The-Simpsons.html
But how else is the riot connected?

Another way in which the Stoke Croft Riot is connect to Mumbai is that Tesco shops are now popping up in India to supply cheap quality food to the Mumbai population.
