ICT & Education: Key Issues • ICT Integration in education is complex (Drent, 2005; Kay, 2006; Tondeur et al, 2012) • Related teacher competence development not structurally embedded in Teacher Ed. curriculum (OECD, 2010; Hovius & Kessel, 2013; Admiraal et al., 2013) • Many teacher educators are not adequately trained in pedagogical ICT use (time issue). • Student teacher preparation for pedagogical ICT use is inadequate. • Yet, Ministries & Schools expect: Teacher Ed. leading in this domain (also see PPT by Bottema, 2014)

What has been helpful? • Definition of conducive factors at organisation level: The 4 in Balance Model: Vision, Expertise, Materials, Infrastructure + Collaboration & Leadership • Definition of relevant Teacher expertise: The TPACK model (Mishra & Koehler, 2006) : (national) ICT competence indicators for teachers (NL, 2009) (ICT op school, 2004)
  6. 6. Dutch ICT Standards for teachers (Contents version 2013) 1. Attitude – creative, cooperative, reflective on own behaviour re ICT-e use 2. Instrumental skills: Can make use of: – Office software – Learning Management Systems – Testsoftware – Authoring tools for multimedia learning materials development 3. Information literacy (Information skills) 4. General pedagogy: can use / make ICT available to: – Present – Cooperate and communicate – Support individual work – Coach & evaluate – Test 5. Arrange / Design materials – Find – Adapt / Develop – Knowledge of copyright models
