The Law Office Policy & Procedures Manual <ul><li>The subject breakdown provides the user with a fairly detailed understanding of what is contained in section (easy to follow) and is written in plain language. </li></ul><ul><li>The Law Office Policy & Procedures Manual has so far been updated upon the request by the Law Practice Manual Section Publishing Board. It was published 1982, updated 1992 (2nd ed.) and afterward completely revised as a result of drastic changes in law office management practices. The manual was again updated 2004 (4th ed.) and last in 2007 (5th ed.) </li></ul><ul><li>This manual is often used as a reference for a Firm’s management to create their own office manual on policy and procedures. The manual may then be distributed to all staff for reference, along with a disclaimer that the manual does not create condition of or guarantee of continued or permanent employment. </li></ul><ul><li>Would we want this resource in our print library? Yes, at least one copy at the disposal of office management for reference. </li></ul><ul><li>However, it since the printed version is relatively inexpensive and new editions are only released every few years at best, it would be worthwhile to get a hard copy rather than pay for the online version. </li></ul><ul><li>Comparable sources? The Essential Formbook: Comprehensive Management Tools for Lawyers <ul><li>Helps individual lawyers and firms of all sizes meet existing management standards in a way that is consistent with their goals of better serving clients and making profit. </li></ul><ul><li>Available in print (ABA web store $199.99) and on Google print </li></ul><ul><li>The work is separated into eight separate parts that are not dependent on any other part. As a result, the print version is relatively easy to follow. </li></ul><ul><li>All eight parts are supplemented and updated periodically. The work will also be available on CD-ROM and ultimately on internet. </li></ul><ul><li>This book provides its users with Form templates for certain management and legal functions such as forms for billed and unbilled matters, client activity reports, recruiting & hiring; sample letters (i.e. Placement Directors) </li></ul><ul><li>Would we want this resource in our print library? Yes, the book covers a range of topics (i.e. billing, hiring, and administrative procedures) and standard forms approved by the ABA that will ensure the Firm is carrying out business in a manner that is professional and according to industry standards. </li></ul><ul><li>Would you pay to have online access to this source? Probably not since it is updated only periodically. </li></ul>
