My Home Town

  1. 1. My Home Town<br />Colliers Wood<br />
  2. 2. History<br />Colliers Wood is named after the local wood which was cleared in the 1870s, to build housing.<br />It grew larger after the extension of the underground railway network to colliers wood, with a short commute to London becoming possible.<br />
  3. 3. Savacentre<br />When it opened in 1989 it was the largest supermarket in Europe.<br />It, along with the Tandem Centre (a small shopping complex), are the main reasons why people to come to Collier’s Wood.<br />
  4. 4. Merton Abbey Mills<br />Once the home of an idyllic heritage site, the ‘abbey mills’, Merton Abbey Mills is now home to an equally idyllic housing complex.<br />
  5. 5. Brown & Root Tower<br />Colliers Wood is the proud home of the Brown & Root tower, voted ‘the ugliest building in London’.<br />The office block, currently disused, were built in 1965, and owned by Dick Cheney, used as an offshore oil contractor’s offices.<br />
