This document provides tips and strategies for preparing for competitive exams through developing skills in mathematics, English, reasoning, and general knowledge. It discusses techniques for speed maths such as Vedic mathematics. It provides sample questions and problems for different topics in mathematics and reasoning. It also shares links to additional online resources and recommends books to help prepare in these subject areas. The goal is to help participants of the PGPSE (Post Graduate Programme in Social Entrepreneurship) increase their skills and score well in aptitude tests through effective preparation and practice.

Vedic Mathematics For All
1. VEDIC MATHEMATICS FOR ALL by : DR. T.K. JAIN AFTERSCHO ☺ OL centre for social entrepreneurship sivakamu veterinary hospital road bikaner 334001 rajasthan, india FOR – PGPSE PARTICIPANTS mobile : 91+9414430763
2. How to do multiplication ? Suppose you have to multiply 92 to 93, find their difference from 100, put them like this : 92 -8 93 -7 now subtract 7 from 92 = 85 (or 8 from 92, it is cross subtraction) the base is 100 so answer has to be in 4 digits now you multiply 8 and 7 = 56 so answer should be : 8556
3. 9992 * 9932? Again put it as base 10000 9992 - 8 9932 -68 deduct 8 from 9932 = 9924 now multiply 8 to 68 = 544 the answer has to be in 8 digits : so answer is : 99240544
4. How to find squares of numbers ending in 5? Suppose you have to find squar of 95, just multiply 9 to hits higher digit and put 25 at the end. 9*10 = 90, dont forget 25 =9025 similarly, find square of 185, multiply 18 to 19 = 342 and put 25 : 34225
5. How to multiply 43 to 47 ? Here the unit digits are 3 and 7, when you add them, it is 10. so understand a simple trick for such cases : multiply 4 to next digit = 4*5 = 20 now multiply both the unit digits : = 21 the answer is 2021.
6. How to multiply 58 to 52? 8+2 = 10 so 5*6 = 30 8 * 2 = 16 so answer : 3016
7. How to multiply 123 and 321 in one go ? Assume 123 as ABC and 321 as EFG respectively. The simple (but long) formula is : AE / (AF+EB) / (AG+BF+CE)/(BG+CF)/(CG) =3 / 8 /14 / 8 / 3 (here 14 is two digit, so add 1 of this to 8 – the earlier digit) =39483
8. How will you square up 109 ? 109 = 100 + 9 so add one more 9 to it : 118 now take square of 9 and append it. = 11881
9. How will you square 1011? Add 11 again : 1011 + 11 = 1022 square 11 and append it : 1022121
10. How will you square 53? 50 + 3 = 53 so add 3 more to it : 56 now divide it by 2, we get 28 now append square of 3 to it. 2809 answer Note: here we have divided by 2, because 100/2 = 50 the base has to be 10 or any power of 10.
11. How will you multiply 303? 303 + 3 = 306 now multiply it by 3 = 918 now append square of 3 to it: 91809 Note : here we have multiplied by 3 because 100 * 3 = 300 (the base is 100)
12. How will you multiply 411? 411 + 11 = 422 now multiply it by 4 : 1688 now append square of 11 : 168921 answer. Note : we have multiplied by 4 because 100 * 4 = 400
13. How will you find square of 257? 257 + 7 = 264 now you divide by 4, 66 append square of 7 (base 1000) = 66049
14. How will you square up 126? We know that 1000/8 = 125, so take 125 as base 126 + 1 = 127 divide 127 by 8 : 15.875 now append square of 1 : = 15876 answer
15. How will you multiply 29 to 99? Instead of 29, werite 28 now deduct 29 from 100, we get : 71 so answer should be : 2871
16. What to do ? Prepare for competitive examinations from your schooling onwards – it will help you increase your mathematics speed, verbal ability (word power and grammar), reasoning skill etc. Later you may appear in a variety of aptitude tests – and there is a possibility that you will get good score in these tests. Read good articles and prepare yourself. There are many books on vedic mathematics, prepare from them as well.
17. Is there any fixed syllabus for competitive examinations / aptitude tests ? No – it is a test of your mind power – your ability to take decision, your overall ability on the basis of your studies from schooling to date. So there is no fixed syllabus. The best idea can be that you may go through last few years' papers and identify your strengths and weaknesses and prepare your strategy.
