Everest <ul><li>Mount Everest or Sagarmatha is the highest mountain on the earth. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1865, the mountain was given its English name by Andrew Waugh, the British surveyor-general of India. Waugh named the mountain on behalf of his senior chief Sir George Everest. </li></ul><ul><li>The height of the mountain above the sea level is said to be 8848 meters(29,028 feet). </li></ul><ul><li>The mountain, which is part of the Himalaya range in High Asia, is located on the border between Nepal ,Tibet and China. As of the end of the 2006 climbing season, there have been 3,050 ascents to the summit, by 2,062 individuals, and 203 people have died on the mountain </li></ul><ul><li>Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary were the first to climb Mount Everest </li></ul><ul><li>.Climbers are the significant source of revenue for Nepal. The Nepalese government also requires the permit from all prospective climbers which carries a heavy fee of $25000 per person. </li></ul>
