What if things got really bad with what’s going onwith our economic situation.The bad guys may be more willing to take what’syours or do harm to your family, so you may have tobe more protective of your property and family andtake extra steps to increase security and awareness.You should try to make your home as secure aspossible so intruders will move on to easier targets.
  3. 3. Security lights outside that have motion detectorsare a good idea and should be used.Solar powered security lights with motiondetection are available and handy if the power isout, you would still have outside light security.

For home security you should plant thorny plants or bushesunder or around windows and around areas that you feelwould be areas of approach to help you control an intrudersmovement.If you do not have a fence, you can string wire ormonofilament fishing line in strategic places at differentheights from the ground to create trip hazards and to slowdown intruders, the wire would be less visible at night and ifhidden by foliage.A benefit to creating obstacles like these is you can direct orcontrol someone to a point that is more easily observed. Anintruder may avoid any obstacles to find an easier entrypoint.

Dogs can be good for alerting you of something wrongoutside, they have an uncanny sense of hearing somethingthat is not right.Even a small dog makes a good alarm even if too small tohelp defend you.A large dog would be more capable of defending you. If youhave a dog that barks at any noise it hears, it will do no goodat alerting you of a problem, you will not know what’s forreal.Even if you have a close neighbor with a dog, it will be ofbenefit to you.
  6. 6. Your doors and windows may not be secure enough.If your doors open outward, they are more difficult to break into. Itmakes them hard to kick in because the force is into the door frame.Doors that open inward have only the lock and dead bolt holding itin place and are easier to break in.If your door opens inward you can get security bars to helpstrengthen the door frame.Locks are not always secure, most can be easily picked ordestroyed to gain entry to the home, chose a lock with ANSI Grade1 classification .Make sure you install a peep hole in the doors if you do not haveone.
