Tolerance is another word for Acceptance. • Children think that tolerance means: • Listening to other people’s views. • Showing respect for each other. • Knowing that people have different views and showing that we value those views. • Showing patience. • Cooperation. • Accepting that we make mistakes and not blaming others.

  7. 7. Once, all the elephants in the world were black or white. They loved all creatures, Once, all the elephants in the world were black or white. They loved all creatures,
  8. 8. but they hated each other,
  9. 9. and each kept to his own side of the jungle.
  10. 10. One day the black elephants decided to kill all the white elephants and the white ones decided to kill the black ones.
  11. 11. The peace-loving elephants from each side went to live deep in the darkest jungle. They were never seen again.
  12. 12. A battle began.
  13. 13. It went on…
  14. 14. and on, and on…
  15. 15. until all the elephants were dead.
  16. 16. For years no elephants were seen in the world.
  17. 17. Then, one day, the grandchildren of the peace-loving elephants came out of the jungle. They were grey.
  18. 18. Since then the elephants have lived in peace.
  19. 19. But recently the little ears and the big ears have been giving each other strange looks.
  20. 20. Some things to try in the classroom. • Have a class discussion: • Those who like Marmite against those that don’t. • Because there is nobody in the middle!

  22. 22. Words can wound. • Draw round one child. • Tear a piece off for every insult. • Now patch the child together. • Are the wounds still there?
  23. 23. ACCEPTANCE •DON’T ACCEPT SOMETHING BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT IS. •ACCEPT IT BECAUSE IT IS RIGHT.
