    4. 4. Customer Question: “Why do I never seem to get the yields promised from my colour inkjet or solid ink printer?”
    5. 5. Answer:
    6. 6. Answer: The testing procedures used by the ISO to estimate cartridge yields do not reflect typical office and work environments (where they are used most often).
    7. 7. The Result: $$$ You Could be Paying as much as 200% - 400% more for every page that you print!
    8. 8. Here are some of the ISO test factors that affect yields: 1. Continuous Mode Testing 2.Test Originals Used are usually 20% coverage (the average office document is at least 30 - 40%) 3.Testing for Fade 4.Testing at Rated Speed
    9. 9. 1. Continuous Mode Testing After every print job, ink jet cartridges and solid ink (wax) cartridges must purge their nozzles to avoid clogging. I.S.O. tests are run in a continuous mode so that there are no losses as a result of this cleansing procedure. Short run work, according to manufacturers tests, actually deliver yields as low as 25% of those projected from continuous mode testing.
    10. 10. 2. Test Originals The I.S.O.'s ink jet colour test patterns have 15% coverage (vs laser @ 20%). However, typical business colour documents tend to approximate 30 % coverage.
I.S.O. tests every 100 print/copy for quality. If a colour cartridge with a 500 yield potential failed at 525 prints, it could get a 600 print rating. Rounding up when quot;fadequot; occurs can affect yields by 10% - 20%.
    12. 12. 4. Testing at Rated Speed 200 D.P.I 600 D.P.I (used to project (more commonly yields). used). I.S.O. tests printers at their rated speed. Injet technologies run faster in quot;draft modequot; (200 D.P.I.) and slower at quot;laser qualityquot; (600 D.P.I.). If your injet was tested at 200 D.P.I. quot;draft modequot; but you need 600 D.P.I. quality you should expect less yields.
    13. 13. In Summary As can be seen from the previous slides, ink jet cartridge yields can sometimes be mis-leading. Users should understand the total cost per page associated to their printing devices.
    14. 14. In Summary While the quality of inkjet technology can be quite good at times, these printers are best suited for low volume applications, due to the high cost of the supplies. Laser printers are sometimes more practical for higher volume office environments. http://www.4office.ca
