Short (15 min) presentation I gave at Identity.Next 2010 about 3rd party identities and their value beyond providing profile data. There is a 2 way communication possible and that will drive traffic to your site.

  • This isn't really about 3rd party identity. Identity has almost nothing to do with the scenarios depicted here. It's all about sharing private user data between services -- and that can be done (via OAuth for example) without sharing user identity. When it *can* be done while exposing less private user data it generally should be.
    For instance, posting this comment could have been very easy via my Facebook login, but this site is also demanding info on tons of extraneous Facebook data including from my friends, so no, I'll take the 'create a throwaway account' approach just to protect my data and my friends' data.
