OBJECTIVES <ul><li>The intent of this chapter is to look at online learning context that allow us to develop deeper and more useful theories of online learning. </li></ul><ul><li>Also discussing about the six forms of interaction and their critical role in engaging and supporting both learners and teachers. </li></ul>

ATTRIBUTES of LEARNING <ul><li>Learner Centered </li></ul><ul><li>We must careful to recognize that learner-centered contexts must also meet the needs of the teacher, of the intitution, of the larger society that provides support for the student and the institution, and often of a group or class of students. </li></ul>
  5. 5. ATTRIBUTES of LEARNING <ul><li>Knowledge centered </li></ul><ul><li>Knowledge centered is more into effective learning. Effective learning is both defined and bounded by the epistemology, language, and context of disciplinary thought. </li></ul><ul><li>So privides expanded opportunityfor student to plunge ever deeper into knowledge resources, limitless means for student to grow their knowledge, to find their own way around the knowledge of discipline, and to benefit from its expression in thousands of format and contexts. </li></ul>

ATTRIBUTES of LEARNING <ul><li>Assessment Centered, is about necessity for effectie learning environments.in making this assertion, they do not give unqualified support for summative assessment but rather look to formative evaluation that serves to motivate, inform, and provide feedback to both learners and teachers. </li></ul><ul><li>Community Centered </li></ul><ul><li>the community-centered lens allow us to include the critical social component of learning in our online learning designs. </li></ul>

THE ROLE OF INTERACTION IN ONLINE LEARNING <ul><li>Interaction serves a variety of functions in the educational transaction. </li></ul><ul><li>Sims (1999) has listed these functions as allowing for learner control, facilitating program adaptation based on learner input, allowing various forms of participation and communication, and acting as an aid to meaningful learning. </li></ul>

DEFINING and VALUING INTERACTION in ONLINE LEARNING <ul><li>Educational interactions: </li></ul><ul><li>Student-student Interaction , is critical to the development of communities of learning (Wenger, McDermott, & Snyder, 2002) that allows learner to develop interpersonal skills, and to investigate tacit knowledge shared by community members. </li></ul><ul><li>Student-teacher Interaction , supported in large number of varieties and formats include asynchronous and synchronous communication using text, audio, and video. </li></ul>

Student-content Interaction, has been a major component of formal education, the web supports these more passive form. Such as ; exercise in virtual labs, online computer assisted tutorials and the development of interactive content that responds to student behavior and attributes. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Teacher-teacher Interaction, creates opportunity for professional development and support that sustains teacher through communities. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher-content Interaction, focuses on the creation of content and learning activities by teachers. </li></ul><ul><li>Content-content Interaction, programmed to interact with other automated information sources, so as to refresh itself constantly, and to acquire new capabilities. </li></ul>
