1. Thesis For Gun Control Essay
THESIS STATEMENT: Implementing stricter gun control laws will only effect law abiding citizens,
stricter punishments will affect those that do not abide by the law.
My first resource is comes from a book titled, Evaluating Gun Policy. This book was created by a
complex variety of both supporters, activists, and national statics, all pertaining to current Gun
Control Laws, potential law amendments, and the opinions of men and women who are both for and
against firearms and firearm safety. It's a compilation of Prevalence, Policy, Restrictions, and
potential policy changes (Evaluating Gun Policy, 2003).
Evaluating Gun Policy is not a bias source. Each chapter is filled with facts that pertain to the
research conducted by the many contributors. This is one of the reasons I find this resource so very
valuable. The information is also frequently cited because it is a plethora of outside resources, this
allows me the ability to explore those resources for more information pertaining to my topic.

turn in their weapons, resulting in a thirty–six percent increase in gun related incidents (Jonathan

2. Thesis Statement For Gun Control
Gun control: How to protect criminals from being resisted
Thesis Statement:
It is too late to eliminate guns from the world, especially from the criminals; therefore, potential
victims should be allowed to use guns for self–defense with more governmental support because it
would decrease criminal activities and save more innocent people's lives.
Argument 1:
Using guns for self–defense is an international human right, which reduce both crime rates and
victims' losses.
Counter–Argument 1:
Stricter gun control laws are essential to save lives.
Rebuttal 1: gun crimes are still increasing in countries where guns are banned.
Argument 2:
Gun control laws only apply to the potential victims, and do not prevent criminals from committing
crimes....show more content...
The severity of the law on criminals will act as a substantial deterrent from committing any crime
using a gun. So the penalty of gun crime is focused on the actual problem which is the criminal
who use the gun to shoot or to threaten the victims. The severe penalty is one of the solutions
which is expressed by Mialon & Wiseman (2005) to decrease gun crimes and increase the freedom
of potential victims. Supporters of gun control laws believe that the control of guns is the only way
to stop criminals, and punishment is for violators of these laws. As Cooney & Burt (2012)
demonstrate that most violent crimes are committed by criminals who had previous arrest records,
they also find that most of gun violence in U.S is only between criminals. Such facts demonstrate
the issue lies in controlling repeat offenders and not in pushing for more gun control laws. The right
of using guns for self–defense combines with applying more severe punishment to gun users could
deter criminals and create more security to the

4. Essay on The Gun Control Debate
"I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it."
–– Clint Eastwood
Gun control has a history dating back to 1791, when the Second Amendment of the Constitution
was ratified. However, more recently, the debate over gun control has escalated into a much more
public issue to which many citizens can relate. After all, stories about incidents involving guns
appear frequently today in newspapers and on television or the radio. One could say that the debate
started with the passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968, which banned ownership of guns by
certain groups of people and regulated the sale of guns. Since then, two main groups have gradually
appeared: people who oppose strict federal...show more content...
Since 1991, the violent crime rate has decreased 38 percent.2
Supporters of restricting gun ownership argue exactly the opposite; they feel that if more people
were to have guns, there would be more violent crime incidents and more accidents involving guns,
especially among children and teens. More people in the United States die in a gun–related
occurrence than in any other country, and gun attacks are five times more likely to cause death than
attacks involving a knife.3 Those people who want more restricting laws have good reason to do so,
because they want to protect themselves and the people they know from harm. On both sides of this
issue, people feel that their ideas are the ones that will keep them from harm. Unfortunately, their
ideas differ so greatly (gun ownership versus no ownership) that the issue is hotly debated today.
Between very limited gun control and very restricted gun control, there must be some medium that
can somewhat appease both sides. More laws can be constructed that ban individuals that have a
criminal background, mentally unstable individuals, or minors from buying a gun. Already, a
background check is required for all individuals who wish to buy a gun; this comes from the Brady
Law, passed in 1994, which allows law enforcement officials to check the qualifications of the buyer.
This way, law–abiding citizens can own a gun for hunting or for self–defense reasons, while
criminals would have a nearly impossible

5. Gun Control Argumentative Essay
Over the last few years, homicides due to firearms have seen a large increase in commonality and
the debate over gun ownership is as impassioned as ever before. On one hand, avid gun owners cite
the 2nd Amendment and their constitutional right to bear arms as reason to maintain possession over
their firearms. On the other hand though, many fanatics believe that guns should not be accessible to
any member of society, exempt of course for only members of the law enforcement or their country's
military. However, weighing all the possible options and providing resources for strictergun control
laws could help save the lives of many countless victims. Currently, there are over 33,000 gun
related deaths per year, coupled with over 370 mass shootings...show more content...
Currently, each store must conduct a background check that consists of asking of prior convictions
and commitments to mental institutions from the potential buyer. If in the case that the buyer is
deemed fit for purchase, they can likely walk out of the store with a gun, including a high–powered
automatic rifle, the same day. However, if their application is flagged a more extensive
background check is conducted, rightfully so. Nonetheless, rejections only occur in less than 1%
of gun applications and more often than not uninformed and untrained citizens become gun
owners if they apply (LePore 4). Even members of the "No Fly List," a list for potential domestic
terrorists, who aren't allowed to board American flights, are often allowed to obtain a gun license
without much thorough investigation to their background as long as they haven't been labeled
mentally disabled. Such is the case with the Orlando's gay nightclub shooter last year, Omar
Mateen. Mateen, was a suspected terrorist, who although was on the "No Fly List," was still
allowed to obtain a highly powered automatic weapon just days before his unprovoked massacre. By
applying a more thorough required background process, gun stores face much less risk of selling to a
potentially unstable person with ulterior motives than

Gun Control My response to this comment is that it is based on facts that have been misused and
only represents one side of a story that is multifaceted. Many recent studies have shown that gun
control is needed in a society like ours today and helps to curb all types of gun related fatalities
not just homicides. In Canada, over 3000 firearms are stolen annually. Gun control is needed to be
able to trace the usage of guns and the hands they fall into. Many stolen guns are used in violent
crimes and are easier to trace when they have been registered; registration has been proven to tie
some criminals to their crimes. Studies in Toronto and Edmonton have also showed that a large

Lax gun control laws have also been tied to higher suicide rates and impulsive crimes around the
around the world. This is because when guns are readily available impulsive acts such as suicide
are easier to partake in. Escalating arguments can also turn deadly in the blink of eye when guns are
readily available and at a person's disposal. Many anti–gun control advocates argue that gun control
takes guns away from law abiding citizens and leaves them unprotected to heinous criminals who
do not comply with the law. If this statement held value, it would allow for an all out warfare.
People would end up shooting at each other in defense and create shootouts. Secondly, many guns
that are kept in houses as a means of defense end up doing more harm than good. It has been
shown that children who live in houses with guns have a higher chance of accidental death by
gunshot than those who do not. In areas without gun control it easier for a highschooler to buy
ammunition than to buy cigarettes, that to me is disturbing. In previous generations gun control
may have not been necessary. In today's society however, there is a prevalent lack of respect for
the value of a human life and guns that are readily available add fuel to the already out of control
flames. Lastly, gun control does nothing but protect the public. Many Canadian citizens are in favor
of it because they have seen

The Politics of Gun Control
In recent years, political discourse about gun control and the Second Amendment has become
increasingly volatile. Gun lobbies such as the National Rifle Association are more organized and
aggressive and their issue agenda has evolved as new and more powerful weapons and militia
appear. On the other side of the debate, the critical wounding of James Brady gave gun control
advocates a visible martyr with strong ties to Republican conservatives. In sum, gun control and the
right to bear arms have become hotly disputed issues where political alignments are constantly
shifting.

Dingell won re–election, but other old–timers who voted for the bill did not, and the Democrats lost
control of Congress. So when the latest gun–control bill came up in June, Dingell didn't take any
chances. This time, instead of backing the president, he decided to join with Republicans and NRA
lobbyists to author a compromise. After a week of emotional debate, Dingell's bill went down to
defeat on both sides of the aisle, all but killing any chance for stricter gun laws this year.
The loss was crushing to anti–gun forces and the White House. In the wake of the Columbine
massacre, polls show that more than 80 percent of Americans back stricter laws (Newsweek). In
May of 1999, the Senate took advantage of the national mood to pass a tough law requiring safety

The NRA unleashed thousands of callers to clog congressional switchboards while a dozen lobbyists

Why gun control won't solve any problems Guns have been around since the 1300s, from the

The main part that allows us to keep our guns is the "keep" part of this, this allows us to keep our

people would be in an uproar about this happening. The number of people who own guns within
the U.S, "in 2016 was between 36% and 49% of the U.S."(Agrestic 10). That's almost half of the
U.S, and that would be almost impossible to do and if the government tried it would take

Gun Control in Canada
Gun Control is an important issue to Canadians. Canada has both provincial and federal
legislation that restricts the sale, purchase, and use of different kinds of firearms. The United
States, on the other hand, do not have federal or state bills restricting the possession or use of
firearms, only local laws exist there. A firearm consists of any barreled weapon from which a shot,
bullet or other missile can be fired and that is capable of causing serious bodily harm or death.
Society's concerns about protection from violent crimes involving firearms have encouraged
Canadian Parliament to pass tougher gun control legislation. The Federal Government responded by
passing Bill C–68 that created the Firearms Act,...show more content...
In 1892 was the first government step in licensing firearms. A basic permit for pistols was
introduced in the Criminal Code. In 1913 it became a criminal offence to sell or distribute firearms
to anyone under 16 years old. Government finally recognized that children should not have
possession of a firearm. Until 1934 firearm registration was rarely an enforced offence. The Royal
Canadian Mounted Police kept records of those purchasing firearms. Handguns had to be
re–registered every five years starting in 1939.
It also became an offence to alter the serial numbers on guns as records were kept and gun
transactions were being monitored. 1951 was the next step in gun control legislation having
automatic fire guns added to the list of firearms that were to be registered. A list to categorize
firearms as 'restricted weapons' and 'prohibited weapons' was created in 1968 ("History of Firearms",
2000). By this time police were become allowed to search and seize firearms with a judge issued
warrant or if they had reasonable grounds that the safety of the public was at stake. On August 5,
1977 Bill C–51 was given royal assent. This bill imposed stricter penalties for those convicted of an
indictable offence where a firearm had been used. Bill C–51 also created the requirement of a
Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC) to properly screen those purchasing guns and to keep
records of firearms purchased. A FAC had to be renewed

Gun Control will make the nation Safer
Some have said, "Gun control is good, others have said it isn't." "Gun Control is a governmental
regulation of the sale and ownership of firearm"(gun control). I believe that if we have a
semi–stricter law on Gun Control, the crime rate would lessen.
The reason I decide to choose a topic on Gun control was that it had some intriguing viewpoints,
such as different point of views and some controversial viewpoint. I decided to read two type of
views on concerning gun control, such as one of them was explaining about how gun control should
be put in place to avoid massacres and violence with weapons. On the other hand, the other article

I would then say since we have this law in place no kid would have easy access because it would all

The result of Gun control is that laws put in place in this article and one that is connected to gun
control help the violence of guns lessen and also keep people who are not authorized to carry one,
not carry firearms. No doubt, sources such as the National Rifle Association have said, "That it isn't
the firearm who kills people or does damage, but it's the person behind the gun." In my belief, gun
control has been slightly mandated because due to the results of gun control, it has majorly been
enforced by having those who are accused of firearm charges have longer jail sentences. For
example, "The number of inmates in federal prison on firearm or arson charges (the two are
counted together) increased 51 percent from 1993 to 1998, to a total of 8,979"(Control). That's why
my reasoning was aimed in a particular way.
The purpose of gun control in this article is emphasizing that gun should be outlawed because it is
detrimental to a person's to a person well–being, such as reduce crime on individual and also crimes
happening in today's time is by gun violence; moreover, the different massacres are by guns. The
reason is that the person who is operating that machinery, are mentally ill, so the best way eliminate
massacre is when we someone who is not having a good day or good time at the moment, we should

numbers of guns flowing in the market, there is a great opportunity to make the society a safer,
and better place. However, to quote from many critics, " guns don't kill people, people do". They
believe that guns are only tools for people who wish to commit murder, and it is the people who
are using the guns have the problem. And they believe, if the government limits citizens to own
guns, they will not have an opportunity to defense, and fight back for themselves. I agree with the
point that guns kill people, but I also think the ones behind the gun must take the responsibilities of
owning a gun. The ones who have guns should have a ethical bottom line which is to only use guns

More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in the US. Most of which are caused by
handguns. Homicide is the second leading cause of death among 15–24 year–olds. Most reasons for
gun violence are caused by video game influence, and issues of mental illnesses. Video games are
one of the biggest causes of gun violence because of the majority of in game violence that occurs.
Today's children are more prone to violence due to video games and the violent movies, but then
that leads back to the way they were raised. In today's world, both parents work, there is no family
time to teach their children the main differences between right and wrong. When most people don't
know who they are harming, it makes it a lot easier for them to cause harm.
Most Americans would say that they feel as if the government is taking away the firearms from the
innocent people. They also feel more strongly about not making gun laws stricter, instead making
the punishment for those who commit the crimes much more severe. That would be the perfect
reason to solve a lot of problems. Mainly because if the harmful people get more punishment, it will
keep the bad people off the streets and stop them from harming anymore people. The majority of
firearm owners also believe that taking the guns away will not stop all the violence that occurs
because there will be more bad people doing the same thing

English Research Paper– Gun Control Introductory"If you take guns away from legal gun owners,
then the only people who would have guns would be the bad guys." – Bruce Willis. Americans of
the age of twenty–one should be able to own guns, with a mandatory background and mental check
before purchase. Before any firearm sale at antique shops, background checks should be performed.
Parents should keep unloaded weapons locked away in a safe place, and should talk to their children
about gun safety, and why it is important. Before shooting on the range, kids should be safely taught
how to dry–fire (if possible), and learn how to safely handle guns. Unsafe gun handling should never
be permitted.

Due date Informative Essay on Gun Control Introduction The right to possess guns is a
fundamental element to American identity. The right to own and operate guns under certain
circumstances is in fact guaranteed as part of the United States Constitution. Over the course of
American history and particularly in the 21st century, there exists a great debate over the
possession of guns of private citizens. Both sides of the debate argue with fervor. There are those
that argue fervently for the right to possess arms; they argue for guns with regard to home
protection, property protection, personal security, and that it is a fundamental right as a citizen. On
the other side, there are those that reference the persistence of accidental injuries and fatalities that
are gun related. People on this side of the debate argue for the banishment of guns, for stricter gun
control laws, and for restrictions on certain kinds of high caliber guns and ammunition. They argue
for the safety of the general population and for the lack of responsibility of those in possession of
guns. They additionally reference the excessive amount of gun violence in media such as music,
films, animation, and video games trying providing moderate to exceptional evidence that access to
excessive violent imagery in conjunction with what they view as slack gun control policies is an
equation for tragedies that society is unprepared to handle and should not have to. Each side of the

Gun Control: Worse For Us Than We Know
Almost everyone living in this country should have witnessed such debates. Some people might
not have listened to a formal debate, but an informal gun control debate is being carried on by
many groups and individuals. It is very unlikely that someone has not listened to one. Recall the
occasions when you were traveling or waiting somewhere hearing the neighbors discussing gun
control pros and cons. These conversations are also gun control debates in the wider sense of the
term. After all, a debate does not have to be a formal one. The question where the gun control debate

The statement "Crime rates will skyrocket if guns are banned because the criminals will do anything
to get guns" (Pros&Cons) is very true in this sense. The gun crime statistics from these countries
reveal that after these laws have come into force, there has been a steep increase not only in the
number of murders but also in the number of suicides. So, how do the pro –gun control groups react
to these reports? Unfortunately, they have not been impressed by these facts. Their attitude to gun
crime statistics has always been lukewarm. Since the facts are not on their side, they employ other
means.
The NRA (National rifles Association), for example, has made no secret of its decision to not
accept any compromise on the issue of gun control. It has been threatening legislators that it will
work for their defeat in the primaries, if they do not toe the line of the NRA. The threat seems to be
working, with some legislators making attempts to change the rules in such a way that organizations
like the CDC will not be able to study gun violence. One remarkable thing about the gun control
debate is that though this debate has been carried on for the past few decades ever since gun
control became a serious issue after President Kennedy was gunned down by an assassin, it has been
able to sustain the interest of the people. People have listened to many gun control pros and cons but

Firearms are the weapons of choice for people who decide to use them for protection.
Unfortunately, they are also the weapon of choice for criminals. Since firearms are easy for
criminals to steal, firearms are readily available on the black market; this makes firearms the prime
tool for criminals. Most crimes involving firearms are committed with the use of a handgun; this is a
serious problem in America today. Somegun control supporters believe that restricting firearms is
the best way to protect citizens. However, restricting firearms fails to protect people because the
laws are not effective, restricting firearms prevents people from an effective means of self–defense,
and the laws do not solve the actual problem, which is the owner of firearms.
The restriction on firearms is an ineffective way to protect citizens. There are some cities that have
employed firearm bans in the past, and the results were very poor. On September 24, 1976,
Washington, D.C. enacted a ban on handguns, the ban was later cancelled on June 26, 2008. Under
this regulation, no one could possess firearms except police officers. Evidently, restricting firearms
in D.C. had little effect on reducing the amount of crimes committed, and the number of murders
actually increased by a great deal. Supporters of firearm control would argue this information by
saying that the data is one sided , and that it is necessary to take into account other factors such as
the rise of drug and gang violence.

In addition, with previous facts, statistics, opinions, etc. it cannot be denied that guns keep people
that have them safe. Bad things happen, and bad people are out there using guns incorrectly, but if
someone had to choose between having a gun to defend themselves in a situation that called for it
and not having one...well, one would presume the choice to have a gun would have been chosen.
Why? Because that person knows that if they had a gun they would have a better chance at
survival. From the article "Guns Protect People" criminologist Gary Kleck reports that people
who own guns are reported using their guns 2.5 million times per year to fight off an attack. He
reported that once every 13 seconds someone was using their gun to keep themselves safe (Harris
Para. 6). It only makes sense that one thing that would deter a criminal is that someone they are
trying to hurt will have a gun. Even the notion that someone has a gun could ward of someone
unwanted, because no one really wants to take the chance of someone shooting them in defense.
Knowing that is sometimes what helps people get to sleep at night. Clair Schwan, the editor of the
Libertarian Logic Web site, states that "Prohibition of concealed carry is a prohibition of choice,
and a prohibition of self–defense. Both of those prohibitions are wrong." (Para. 4). Something put
so simply but has such a deep meaning to the fight that is currently going on today. Guns keep

Is saddening to turn on the televisions and find news about a shooting at a school. The first thought
