  2. 2. Childhood • Was Born Walter Elias Disney December 5, 1901 in Chicago, IL • Was one of five children, 4 boys 1 girl • Lived mostly in Marceline, Missouri • In 1911, moved to Kansas City
  3. 3. School and The War • Attended McKinley High School in Chicago • Took courses at Chicago Art Institute • At 16, dropped out to join the army • Joined The Red Cross
  4. 4. Kansas and Laugh-O-Grams •Returned in 1919, started producing shorts for local businesses •Started The Alice Comedies, a real girl and her adventures in an animated world but went bankrupt along with his company Laugh-O-Grams
  5. 5. Hollywood! • Packed up The Alice Comedies moved to Hollywood • Roy, Walt’s brother joined him in California Started the Disney Brothers’ Studio • Created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit • Married Lillian Bounds • Lost rights after having a disagreement with the producer which lead to…

The Magic of Mickey Mouse! • Due to the loss of Oswald, Walt produced Mickey Mouse even voicing him, debuting in Steamboat Willie (1928) • In 1929, Disney created Silly Symphonies, which featured Mickey's newly created friends, including Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto. One of the most popular cartoons, Flowers and Trees, was the first to be produced in color and to win an Oscar.
  7. 7. Movie Productions • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film • During the next five years, Walt Disney Studios completed another string of full- length animated films ,Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi.
  8. 8. Theme Park • Disney's $17 million Disneyland theme park opened in 1955. • Started talking about E.P.C.O.T • Purchased 43 square miles of land in Central Florida • Magic Kingdom opened in 1971
