Exploring web 2.0

  1. 2. <ul><li>It is a silent revolution on the Internet </li></ul><ul><li>environment, affecting businesspeople, </li></ul><ul><li>educators and learners. </li></ul><ul><li>It is the current way that the previous people are </li></ul><ul><li>using the Internet to communicate , research , </li></ul><ul><li>collaborate and retrieve information. </li></ul><ul><li>Internet now is being perceived from a different </li></ul><ul><li>prism. </li></ul>
  2. 3. “ Web 2.0 is the network as platform, spanning all connected devices; Web 2.0 applications are those that make the most of the intrinsic advantages of that platform: delivering software as a continually-updated service that gets better the more people use it, consuming and remixing data from multiple sources, including individual users, while providing their own data and services in a form that allows remixing by others, creating network effects through an &quot;architecture of participation,&quot; and going beyond the page metaphor of Web 1.0 to deliver rich user experiences.” Tim O’Reilly, the creator of the name, defines:

Data consumption and remixing from all sources, particulary user generated data. </li></ul><ul><li>3. Continuous and seamless update of software and data, often very rapidly. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Rich and interactive user interfaces. </li></ul><ul><li>5. Architecture of participation that encourages user contribution. </li></ul>
  4. 5. <ul><li>Web 2.0 is about data. </li></ul><ul><li>That data, however, is of little value unless the teacher or student arranges it into a meaningful presentation. </li></ul>

The development of Web 2.0 brings together three parallel streams of development: The technology stream provides the underlying infrastructure groundwork of networking and hardware technology and software. The application stream includes desktop-like services and applications that are used on the Internet. The socialization stream includes user participation and contribution on the Web.
