    4. 4. When:1954-1975<br />President Johnson confronted congress about joining the war in Vietnam, allies with South Vietnam. Congress agreed and declared War on North Vietnam in1954. <br />When<br />

    6. 6. Why: To fight and stop the spread of Communism in Vietnam and her surrounding countries.<br />Why<br />

There are many reasons why the US entered the Vietnam War.<br />Vietnam spies fire upon the US ship Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin, Rather than withdrawing ships, President Johnson issued another Destroyer the C. Turner Joy to join the Maddox. Then both ships came under attack by North Vietnamese Submarines. <br />The president signed a document that said that if any country needs help to fight communism then the US will help without a moments notice.<br />Causes of The War<br />

They knew the land they were fighting on, and they used that. <br />They built devices called pungi sticks.<br />They also built cruel booby traps and “played dead” and waited for US troops to walk by and bayonet them. <br />Vietnamese Advantages<br />
