History of Le Centre Pompidou: <ul><ul><li>Built from 1971 to1977 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Official grand opening was January 31, 1977. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Its build from all glass windows </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>50 million people have visited since the opening, with about 7 million a year. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Was named after the French President Georges Pompidou, who was president from 1969 to 1974. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>In it the Bibliothèque publique d'information, a vast public library, the Musée National d'Art Moderne, and IRCAM, which is a centre for music and acoustic research. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The Centre is known locally as Beaubourg because of its location. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>It was built by GTM, cost 993 million french francs. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>It’s color coded, meaning all the pipes are different colors, air conditioning is one color, heat is another color ect... </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>With so many people visiting it a year it quickly fell into structure damage and had to shut do in 1997 for 27 months. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>During is renovation 70,000 m² were renovated and 8,000 m² added. </li></ul></ul>
