Generic Neurontin Capsules for Treatment of Neuralgia and Epilepsy

  1. 1. Generic Neurontin Capsules Generic Neurontin Capsules (Gabantin) is used for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia in adults.   3. 3. Generic Neurontin Capsules Active Ingredient The active pharmaceutical ingredient contained in Generic Neurontin (Gabantin Capsules) is Gabapentin. Gabantin Capsules contain 300 mg of Gabapentin in the 300 mg capsule. © The Swiss Pharmacy, Geneva Switzerland
  4. 4. Generic Neurontin Capsules Recommended Dosage Generic Neurontin is given orally with or without food. Treatment of Postherpetic Neuralgia: In adults with postherpetic neuralgia, Gabantin therapy may be started as a single 300-mg dose on Day 1, 600 mg/day on Day 2 (300 mg twice a day), and 900 mg/day on Day 3 (300 mg thrice a day). The dose can subsequently be increased as needed for pain relief upto to a daily dose of 1800 mg (600 mg thrice a day). © The Swiss Pharmacy, Geneva Switzerland
  5. 5. Generic Neurontin Capsules Recommended Dosage Treatment of Epilepsy: Generic Neurontin (Gabantin Capsules) is recommended for add on therapy in patients 3 years of age and older. For adult patients (age 12 and above) the effective dose of Gabapentin is 900 to 1800 mg/day and given in divided doses (three times a day). The starting dose of Gabantin Capsules is 300 mg three times a day. If required , the dose may be increased to up to 1800 mg/day using 3 divided doses. © The Swiss Pharmacy, Geneva Switzerland

Generic Neurontin Capsules Side Effects of Generic Neurontin The most commonly observed side effects associated with the use of Generic Neurontin Capsules (Gabantin) in adults, were dizziness, somnolence, and peripheral edema. Inform your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms and they worry you: Dizziness or light-headedness, feeling tired or drowsy, unfriendliness, unusually overactive, forgetfulness, loss of concentration or confusion,difficulty speaking, changes in your weight, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea and/or vomiting, indigestion, dry mouth, red swollen gums, muscle pain or cramps, back pain,swelling of the hands or feet, runny or blocked nose, fever, bronchitis, lung infection, sore throat and discomfort when swallowing, coughing. © The Swiss Pharmacy, Geneva Switzerland

Generic Neurontin Capsules Warnings And Precautions ➔Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), including Generic Neurontin, increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior in patients taking these drugs for any indication. Patients treated with any AED for any indication should be monitored for the emergence or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior, and/or any unusual changes in mood or behavior. ➔Gabapentin use in pediatric patients with epilepsy 3–12 years of age is associated with the occurrence of central nervous system related adverse events. ➔Antiepileptic drugs should not be abruptly discontinued because of the possibility of increasing seizure frequency. Abrupt or over rapid withdrawal may provoke a withdrawal syndrome reminiscent to alcohol or benzodiazepine withdrawal. © The Swiss Pharmacy, Geneva Switzerland

  10. 10. Generic Neurontin Capsules Overdose Symptoms Acute oral overdoses of Neurontin (Gabapentin Capsules) up to 49 grams have been reported. Generic Neurontin Capsules Overdose Treatment Treatment of Generic Neurontin (Gabantin Capsules) overdosage consists of discontinuation of Generic Neurontin together with institution of appropriate symptomatic and/or supportive therapy. Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin) can be removed by hemodialysis.
