  6. 6. LAVATORY SMOKE DETECTION Not all aircraft. >SMOKE LAVATORY
  7. 7. FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM WHEEL WELL Single loop Fire detection
  8. 8. FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM PNEUMATIC Overheat detection Wing leading edges and fuselage pneumatic duct protected by thermal switches.
  9. 9. OVERHEAT DETECTION BLD DUCT LEAK (L,C,R) OVHT ENG 1 NAC APU DUCT LEAK NOTE: Status message only. Will cause APU to shut down and it can not be restarted until maintenance action is taken.
  10. 10. WHEEL WELL FIRE INDICATION FIRE WHEEL WELL Single loop fire detector routed through all 4 wheel wells If a fire is detected the fire bell sounds and EICAS message displays.

  12. 12. CARGO FIRE PROTECTION FIRE CARGO FWD ARMED ARMED FIRE CARGO AFT DISCH DISCHARGE SWITCH DISCH – Pushed will discharge extinguishing agent to the armed cargo compartment and provide 215 min of suppression. FIRE CARGO ARMED SWITCHES FWD/AFT – Red indicates Fire in related cargo compartment ARMED –The extinguishing system for selected compartment is armed. The equipment cooling system configured to OVRD mode. Pack #3 and all fans are shut off.
  13. 13. CARGO FIRE PROTECTION >CGO BTL DISCH DISCH ARMED A FIRE EXT FWD AFT B FIRE EXT C FIRE EXT D FIRE EXT SQUIB REGULATOR After 30 Min’s or on landing. Bottles C & D discharge through regulators giving a maximum hold over time of 215 Min’s. Pushing DISCH SW fires squibs in bottles A &B into selected compartment.
  14. 14. CARGO SMOKE DETECTION FWD ARMED A A B B A AND B EJECTOR PUMP CENTER PNEUMATIC MANIFOLD Each cargo compartment has 2 zones. Each zone has 2 dual loop smoke detectors. Smoke detector air is drawn from the cargo compartment by an ejector pump. The air source for the ejector pump is the centre pneumatic manifold. Both loop in a smoke detector must detect smoke to generate a fire warning.
  15. 15. CARGO SMOKE DETECTION FWD ARMED A A B B A DETECTOR FAILED EJECTOR PUMP >CARGO DET AIR Or failure of ejector pump or no air pressure in center pneumatic manifold CENTER PNEUMATIC MANIFOLD System can reconfigure to single loop operation if a single loop is detected as failed
  16. 16. ENG FIRE PROTECTION TESTING FIRE ENG 1 FIRE ENG 2 FIRE ENG 3 FIRE ENG 4 PUSH “ENG” Tests the turbine overheat system
  17. 17. ENG FIRE PROTECTION TESTING FIRE TEST IN PROG PUSH “ENG/APU CARGO” Tests the entire system INCLUDING APU FIRE HORN
  18. 18. ENG FIRE PROTECTION TESTING PUSH “ENG/APU CARGO” Tests the entire system >FIRE TEST PASS >FIRE TEST FAIL FIRE TEST FAIL WILL GENERATE STATUS MESSAGE.

Editor's Notes

  • FIRE PROTECTION TESTING Explain Fire/OVHT/CARGO Detection System Automatic Fault Test The Engine and APU detector systems are continuously monitored for faults All dual loop Fire/Overheat Detectors and Cargo Compartment Smoke Detectors are tested upon initial application of electrical power Operable systems normally configure for dual loop operation Systems with a fault in one loop will reconfigure for single loop operation Detector loops in the single loop systems are checked only during manual fault testing with the ENG/APU CARGO switch on the cockpit overhead panel Single Loop systems are: Wheel Well Fire Detectors Engine Cowl Anti-Ice Duct Overheat sensors This test reconfirms system status During this test the EICAS message FIRE TEST IN PROGRESS
  • FIRE PROTECTION TESTING Explain Fire and Overheat Detection System Manual Fault Test Manual testing is accomplished by pushing the desired Fire/Overheat Test switch located on the cockpit overhead panel FIRE/OVHT TEST ENG/APU CARGO 1) Fire Bell sounds 1) Fire Bell sounds 2) Master Warning Lights illuminate 2) Master Warning Lights illuminate 3) All four Engine Fire Switches illuminate 3) All four Engine Fire Switches illuminate 4) All four Fuel Control Switches illuminate 4) All four Fuel Control Switches illuminate 5) APU Fire Switch illuminates 6) Fwd and Aft Cargo Fire Lights illuminate 7) OVHT ENG 1, 2, 3 and 4 STRUTS 8) TEST IN PROGRESS upon completion of test 9) TEST PASSED or 10) FIRE TEST FAIL EICAS Messages FIRE ENG 1, 2, 3 and 4 Warning messages Caution: Any test using the ENG/APU/CARGO test switch, causes the Bleeds to latch closed. CYCLE the Bleed switch’s after this test to restore Note: You will also see the system fault light for the bleeds because of this
