  • Innovation Ecosystems – things that unique at UMD (or at least somewhat rare or new) From perspectives of educator/startup veteran, founder/investor, and investor/startup CEO
  • UM is in College Park, MD, which is 8 miles from the White House in Washington, DC Nestled among NIH, NIST, FDA, NSF, NASA, DARPA, and many other national scientific and research labs and organizations
  • Interestingly, none of these technologies were developed at UMD, but all 3 (Sergei Brin of Google, Brian Hinman of Polycom, and Kevin Plank of UA), all 3 have donated generously back to UMD, especially to create and support entrepreneurship programs at UMD.
  • Innovation Ecosystem Diagram – touch on a couple places
  • This diagram illustrates Mtech’s philosophy of technology entrepreneurship at UMD: 1) Educate the next generation of entrepreneurs, 2) Create new technology ventures, 3) Partner with industry Programs for all audiences, range from entrepreneurship dorm/incubator for students to venture funds All geared towards creating innovative companies.
