PCES newsletter June 2014

  1. 1. Pakistan Christian Evangelical Services “ For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation. . .” (Romans 1:16) June to August 2014 Greetings to our brothers and sisters around the world who support the Gospel through the ministry of PCES. By the grace of God the message of the Gospel is producing fruit as it is spread by many means into more remote areas and the members of the churches grow in faith. A missionary trip to USA, Austria and Germany The Lord provided me with an opportunity to preach the Gospel and to lead seminars on Islam: "How to share the Gospel with your Muslim friends" in the USA, Austria and Germany. It was great to lead seminars on Islam at Metro Christian Convention, New York and to preach the Gospel in different churches at the end of March. In April, Naylah and I went to Austria to visit Brother Heinz and his wife Sonia Bertl to share the ministry of PCES at their church. They are superb host and true friends. They took us around and showed the beautiful area of Schladming surrounded by high mountains covered with snow and light and dark clouds. That area reminds me Psalm 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork." After that we have wonderful opportunity to see Sister Gerlinde Moosbrugger and her family. They have beautiful "Ringlerof" means guest-house top of the hills covered with snow, green meadows and pretty valleys, where we enjoyed their hospitality and studied the Word of God with Gerlinde. Praise the Lord, she is reading books on Christian faith and growing in the Lord. In the first week of May, we went to see Brother Jochen Brand in Germany. Brother Jochen arranged our programs at different churches, house groups, friends and families. That was great to preach and teach on Islam. It was wonderful to meet new friends like Alfred and Ariane Braun, Peter Schneider, Henry Becht, Josef and Maria Rindle, Sabine and Thomas Hoffmann. We enjoyed their sweet fellowship and hospitality. Saleem Saleem's visit to Germany Reported by Jochen Brandt It was great to have our dear brother Pastor Dr.Prof.Saleem Massey and his dear wife Naylah here in Southern Germany as our special guests. We had wonderful fellowship in Christ and visited different places and cities to share the Word of God. Saleem spoke on: “How to reach Muslim people in Europe with the Gospel of Salvation” … I am a missionary in Pakistan and it was touching to listen to Saleem's personal testimonies of how he has experienced victory in Christ as a servant of God in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Many times Christian leaders have had to stop church-planting around Lahore and Kasur in the Punjab, because of opposition from Muslim groups, but, due to Saleem's passion for God's Kingdom, his faith and trust in Jesus and his patience, PCES has been able to buy land for church-planting and build church- buildings in 15 villages. From Friday May 2 to Monday May 12 2014 we travelled to Augsburg, Schwabmünchen, Ulm and Stuttgart. I was very happy to be his interpreter in the different meetings! On our trips through Bavaria and Baden-Würrtemberg we had opportunity to visit Henry Becht and his lovely wife in their home at Riedlingen. The book “Jars of clay” details Brother Becht's blessed ministry in Pakistan. Brother Becht is about 80 years and still working hard for the Gospel in his home village by the grace of GOD and in His power. It was pleasing to see that the LORD has used this German Bible-teacher to translate the Bible into modern Urdu. I remember GOD´s promise in Isaiah 46:4 “Even to your old age I will be the same, and even to your greying years I will bear you !” Dr. Saleem Massey & Mrs. Naylah Saleem Saleem preaches and Jochen translates. Jochen, Saleem and Naylah
  2. 2. A Blessed Gathering On June 6, 2014, all Christian Evangelical Churches from Lahore and Kasur gathered in Changa Manga Forest for 145 baptisms. Those who came for baptism where from different churches: Old Walton Airport 15, Khadim Colony 35, Khaliq Nagar 37, Bhobitian 30, Hussain Khan Wala 12, Bhagiana 8, and from Ladhi and Theeng 8. The temperature of that day was 47 degrees centigrade but, men, women and children enjoyed swimming in the cool running water of the canal. After the baptisms we worshipped the Lord under the shade of the trees and distributed food among 227 people. At the end of the service Brother Saleem's book "Fundamental beliefs of Christian faith" was given to those who were baptised as gift to help them to grow in the Lord and Christian faith. News from the PCES Churches Nash-e-Mann Town Church, Lahore. Nash-e-Mann Town houses more than 500 Muslim families and more than 55 Christian families. The average family consists of 4- 6 members. Since the church began construction, Christians have shown interest in buying land in this town to build their homes. Th inhabitants of Nash-e-Mann Town are labourers, government and private employees. Women do cleaning work in Muslim landlord's homes. Four years ago the Muslims wanted all the Christians to leave this village, and we faced Muslim opposition to building the church, but we resisted. This church is under construction and praise the Lord we have put the roof on the church hall in May with the help of Northview Christian Church in Coldwater, Michigan, USA. We are praying for the funds to compete the church building and a house for a pastor. The congregation currently worship the Lord in the church hall. When we raise the cross on the top of the Church building at its completion, we may face Muslim opposition because a Muslim mosque is only a few blocks away from the church. Pastor Younas Gill, who is the full time pastor at Khadim Colony, will lead worship there. Bhagiana Church Praise the Lord, a big women's prayer meeting was held at church on May 16, where Mrs. Naylah Saleem led the meeting and after meeting food was distributed. Veer Kay Nau The court case brought by the local Muslims to hinder the building of the church in this village has continued through four court hearings. On July 15, the Muslim party did not come to the court and the Judge fined them. Our lawyer said that if the opposition party does not come on the next date then Judge can declare the case in our favour. The date for the next hearing is September 23. Naylah leads a Bible Study at Bhagiana Church Nash-e-Mann Church building Saleem baptises a new Christian Four of the ladies baptised into Christ The people gather for Bible study after the baptisms
  3. 3. You can help in Pakistan by praying for these needs: 1. Please pray for God’s hand of protection over Saleem and others who are speaking out on behalf of Christians and other minorities in times when Islamic extremists are expanding their activity against them. Islamic extremists are expanding their attacks on churches and the Christian community as they did in Joseph colony and Peshawar church. 2. Please pray for our Christian sister Martha Boota as she faces difficult struggles because of the Blasphemy accusations, and for wisdom in what PCES can do to help. 3. Bhagiana Village: We praise God that the cross now proclaims its message from high atop the church building. 4. Nash-E-Mann: Please pray that may the Lord will provide funds for the church hall roof and for the parsonage. At Nash-e-Mann, the congregation worship in the open air. 5. Ladhi Church: We need to construct a boundary wall around the property of the church to save it from fanatic Muslims. 6. Veer Kay Nau: At this village we face Muslim opposition to building a church. Praise the Lord, we have won four court cases and by His Grace and through your prayers we will win last case. We will build a church and shall exalt the Cross on it. The next, and we hope final, hearing is September 23. Pray that God will cause the judge will settle the matter in our favour. 7. Ghohar Village in Kasur: Evangelistic work is going well in these un-reached villages. The Sewing Machine Centre is teaching girls skills so they will not have to make bricks as bond servants. 8. Hussain Khan Wala: Praise the Lord who provided funds to complete building the church and parsonage. Give thanks for the sewing machine centre which has started in this village. 9. Kasur Hospital We have a vision to build a much-needed hospital in the Kasur area, where we have treated many patients in free medical camps. Please pray for God’s guidance and provision. Give thanks that the Lord has provided so that the land has been purchased. There is a great need to construct a house for a watchman and his family on the hospital land in order to make it secure. Please pray for funds. 10. We are thankful to the Lord for our PCES board members, churches and friends around the world who support the Gospel in Pakistan.
