Southeast Caribbean Dispatch
May/June 2014 Newsletter
We ended April with a little Staycation here on
the island. We just got away for a weekend and
had some quiet time together. This was taken
one evening at dinner. Several have mentioned
missing “Kandi’s Komments”. It may show up
every so often, so please keep looking for it.
Church Villages Men’s group and right now they
are going through the book by Henry Blackaby,
The Man God Uses.
This is the Enterprise Church or Christ meeting.
Several of the Men’s Group’s are getting
together every so often for joint fellowship and
it seems to be going over well.
Mother’s Day is a big thing at Church Village
Church of Christ and this year was not a
disappointment. The men went all out in
treating us well. Dr. Lenard Thompson was
visiting from India for a Preaching Clinic and
Evangelism Seminar and he delivered the
Mother’s Day message. It was even reported in
the local newspaper with many quotes by him.
Such as this one…….”A mother’s love can
prompt repentance . . . . A mother’s true love
will do its best above all to protect her children
from going into eternity without Jesus Christ”.
Along with special ministry in song and poetry,
mothers of the church participated in a hat
competition. Here they are picking the finalists.
Allyson, the one in back with the tall hat won
first place. She had pictures of her children and
all the things a mother does for them on it.
Sorry, her face cannot be seen.
The church was full that day with over 175
people and seating was set up outside also.
First time in a long while that we needed
seating outside. Was great to see!!
Lunch was catered by the men and they did the
serving. There was seating inside and out.
This is something the women will now have to
duplicate for the men on Father’s Day.
We were also blessed to have Dr Thompson in
our home several times in his two weeks here
for dinner and we also got to take him out and
around the island with us several times.
We took him up to Chalky Mt pottery shop and
got pictures up there. Look how dry the island
is. We have had over 100 fires this season, way
more than last year which we thought was a
bad one. There is very little green anywhere
this year. Reminds us of California in the
summer, all brown!
After our trip up Chaulky Mount we had a very
nice lunch out on the ocean’s edge on the other
side of the island.
We have finished our Discipleship class at
Oistin’s Church of Christ and will truly miss
meeting with them every Sunday evening. We
are praying that they have learned a new way of
living the Word in their daily lives.
The group from Oistin’s
I have heard that this section was missed?? It
was left out last time because I ran out of room
but will try and fit it in when I can.
As we close this newsletter, we are already in
the states having a great time visiting
supporting churches and family. Lots of
pictures lined up for next time too, so be
looking for it the end of August. I will be going
to Antigua for the Caribbean Youth Convention
and after that, we will both be going to
Grenada. So August will be very busy and very
hot I am sure. Please pray for us and the youth
as we travel and they compete in the Bible Bowl
on the book of James.
Blessings in Christ, Orvel & Kandi.
