Craig & katy bennett - vanuatu -- may 2014

  1. 1. (continued over) The Road to Vanuatu Wow, it is only 6 weeks until our intended departure for Vanuatu! This fact has really hit home this week because our partners, the Thompsons, arrived in Vanuatu last night! Thank you for your prayers on their behalf—they arrived safely and on time with all their luggage! They will spend a few days in the capital city before heading to Luganville, the city where we will be living. Please continue to pray for the Thopmsons as they adjust to life in Vanuatu. As we think about our own departure, we feel both excited and nervous. It is like we are climbing the giant hill on a roller coaster, hearing the chain click as the cars inch higher and higher. The butterflies are going crazy in our stomachs— we’re just waiting for the drop. We know it will be an awesome ride, we just wish we could see over the hill! Over the next few weeks we are packing, saying goodbye, making our final preparations and also continuing to look for partners for our ministry. Ask God to give us his peace as we say goodbye to family and friends for the next three years. Last month we wrote to you about the two obstacles standing in our path to Vanuatu: the granting of our visas and the need for additional support for our ministry. We are excited to tell you that we have progress in both of these areas! The Thompsons carried our visa applications over to Vanuatu with them, so our applications have officially reached the capital city of Vanuatu. Please pray that our applications will be processed quickly and that there will no problems with them. We also have advancements to report in our support. Since we wrote to you last 1 church, 1 ladies group, and 6 families have joined our ministry team, bringing us up to 75.7% of our needed support. To those of you who have just joined us: welcome to our support team, we are so glad to have you working with us! We are still looking for families, churches, small groups, businesses, and anyone else interested in partnering with us in our ministry. As part of our 46 Families for 46% plan, we are seeking: 5 partners at $180 per month (or $540 per quarter or $2160 per year) 5 partners at $90 per month (or $270 per quarter or $1080 per year) 6 partners at $60 per month (or $180 per quarter or $720 per year) $60 is less than what it costs a couple to go to dinner and a movie. Imagine what an impact those same funds will have when used to further God’s kingdom. We welcome partners at any level and would also love to have you join us at $15 or $30 per month. Our mission statement at Pioneer Bible Translators is this: Pioneer Bible Translators exists to disciples the Bible-less, mobilizing God’s people to provide enduring access to God’s word. We want to ask you today to be a part of our mission by mobilizing us through your financial support. Romans 10:13- 15 says ‘“Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in. And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard. And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?” The people of Vanuatu are hungry to read God’s words in their own languages. We have shared the following story with many of you but it so perfectly illustrates the need for God’s word in the languages of the people of Vanuatu that we want to share it with you again. One of our Pioneer Translators missionaries was sitting under a tree in Papua New Guinea with her friend, May 2014 The Thompsons at the airport with their luggage.

Watarak pulled her tattered Aruamu New Testament out of her string bag and said, “I LOVE my Bible. I read every day. I read out loud so my children will hear. When I am cooking food in the evenings, I put the cooking pot on the fire I built, and I sit on a log beside my fire and read stories from my Bible. I read along, and I stop and laugh and say, “Ha. That is so true.” Then I stir my cooking pot, and I read some more and I stop and say, “I can’t believe he said that!” And I read some more and I say to Dazim or another one of my children, “Listen to this thought. It is a very good thought for your life.” Every day of my life I read my Bible, and I do not think I could live without it. It is like food to me, just as much as the food in my cooking pot.” If you have been considering joining our ministry but have been hesitating, now is the time! We talked to a travel agent this week and began looking at plane tickets for our departure for Vanuatu, however until we reach 90% of our needed support, we can’t leave. The people of Vanuatu are anxiously awaiting the time when they will be able to read God’s word in their own languages. We implore you on their behalf—join us in our mission to bring God’s word to them in their own languages. Pray with us that God will lead us to those he is preparing to partner with us in our ministry. Ask Him to prepare the people of Vanuatu to receive His word. Pray also that He will provide the remaining one-time funds that we need to move to Vanuatu. What’s New with the Bennetts? Over the last few weeks, we have been packing, packing, and packing. We have 3 suitcases and 8 trunks in which to pack all of our belongings. What would you pack? This has been the question on our minds as we sort through our belongings and supplies and try to decide what is most important. At the end of this month, we will be traveling along with our luggage to Dallas, TX where we will spend the month in continuing education workshops and visiting with churches, supporters, and friends there. It is our goal to leave for Vanuatu from Dallas at the end of the month. Ask God to give us safe travels to Dallas and to bless our time there. Pray that God will give us wisdom to make good choices about what to pack. Our other big task right now is to prepare Elijah for our move to Vanuatu. He is 2 ½ now, but still too young to fully understand what is going on. Ask God to give us wisdom in how to prepare him. The Word for the Month “I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.” Philemon 1:6 “Mo mi mi stap prea, se from we yumi stap joen long bilif blong yumi, God bambae I givhan long yu blong yu savemoa long ol gudgudfala samting we hem I stap givim long yumi ya we yumi joen long Kraes.” Filimon 1:6 Craig and Katy Bennett
