Interaction among people in which they
create, share, exchange information and
ideas in virtual communities and networks.
This means media people interact with each
other on to create an experience.
Social Media use
People spend 20-30%, or more, of their time on
social media every day
Over 60% of people who use social media admit to
tweeting while using the bathroom
20% of those admit to using snapchat while using
the bathroom
A big population has their tablet/iphone with
them as a second screen while watching TV and
movies

want) and create a flyer about it with the following details:
The name of the service and its logo
A brief history, when was it started
Does it have privacy settings? Summarize how you can
change privacy settings, or who can view your stuff
What are things that people can post on this service that can
get them in trouble?
List three major media companies that use this (except
snapchat, list how people can save pics)

Social Media use People spend 20-30%, or more, of their time on social media every day Over 60% of people who use social media admit to tweeting while using the bathroom 20% of those admit to using snapchat while using the bathroom A big population has their tablet/iphone with them as a second screen while watching TV and movies

What info you give out reflects how you think ahead (or don’t) How you treat others online reflects how you treat people in the real world What you post reflects what is important to you in the real world
  • 16. What employers do The top 4 things that employers do during the hiring process 1. Check your references 2. Check your criminal & Credit history 3. Interview you 4. Check your social media personality Any one of these can keep you from getting the job of your dreams
  • 17. What might Offend Excessive Profanity Images of Drug Use/Underage Drinking Negative talk about a former employer or current employer Offensive/racist language, such as the N word
  • 18. Quick Poll Think about YOUR social media accounts. If you were applying for a job today, and the employer saw your facebook-twitter-instagram-vine, what would they see? What things listed before would they see that might make them think twice about hiring YOU?

Social Media Flyer You are to pick one of the social media websites listed in this lecture so far (yes, you can even pick myspace if you want) and create a flyer about it with the following details: The name of the service and its logo A brief history, when was it started Does it have privacy settings? Summarize how you can change privacy settings, or who can view your stuff What are things that people can post on this service that can get them in trouble? List three major media companies that use this (except snapchat, list how people can save pics)

  • 25. Google + A service created by google to imitate facebook everyone who gets a Gmail or Youtube account automatically gets a + page 75% of G+ pages have no posts

HOw Social MEdia and Media flow Viral Marketing - Trying to make something seem underground, and letting people “spread the message” on social media..... low cost promotions People sharing videos and posts about media spreads knowledge of media events and items People can interact with shows, making them feel like they are part of the experience People use social media and ipads/iphones as second screens while watching shows

  • 29. Social Media Flyer Look at a social media website.... open TODAY only. Find examples of how major tv networks, movie studies, movies etc use social media. If its not unblocked on yours, use a neighbors to take screen shots Create a flyer that discusses how media uses social media to promote itself. take screenshots (hold down command + shift + 4 and trace the stuff you want) to illustrate your point
