WHAT is far more important than how
Presentations are not about acting Rather, they are about being authentic Why most coaches work on body language? Because it’s difficult to work on content But content is far more important When speaker is comfortable with the content Body language just comes naturally
peer-to-peer communication
Presentations are not about manipulating Other people into doing stuff for you Rather, they are about communication Same root as community, yes They are about sharing ideas They are about giving your audience a choice And making clear what your position is

YO U ARE THE H E RO
In a presentation it’s ok to talk about yourself A LOT Not because you’re awesome, but because Best talks come from experience It’s not about showing off or bragging It’s about revealing yourself Being transparent and honest
My target audience is simply “humans”
“ Target audience” is an abstraction So talking to “target audience” is pointless Of course trying to please everyone Is equally pointless, but the trouble is With the word “please” Rather than “pleasing” we should create An emotional connection with other humans
TECHNOLOGY MATTERS
Speakers can accomplish a lot more by using: Slide-ware / Clicker / Microphone Lots of people are scared of technology Because it feels like surrendering your control To something that never quite works But learning to handle those devices Makes them work so much better
