General Results <ul><ul><li>65% of the students participating in the Summer Credit Recovery Program successfully recovered their attempted credits. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>6 to 7 out of every 10 students were able to demonstrate competencies in math and/or language arts. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Teachers found that students who are not eager participants in class were more comfortable expressing their ideas via Moodle. </li></ul></ul>

  12. 12. Comments: Strengths <ul><li>The program is a fantastic modern use of technology to provide students an opportunity to recover where they failed during the year. The program appeared to be well organized. </li></ul><ul><li>This allows students to learn via the internet and become more independent. </li></ul><ul><li>Convenient to use and located at my students school </li></ul><ul><li>I did like the fact that the students could work from home. I also liked that I could get online and check his work and resubmit if need be. </li></ul><ul><li>The program was well paced. </li></ul><ul><li>Allowed me (a working parent) the ability to keep an eye on his work habits and not slack off. </li></ul><ul><li>It was helpful to us because my child had a summer job and could do both each day. </li></ul><ul><li>I thought the online experience really showed me as a student how hard it is to teach yourself. I learned the right way to teach myself and enjoyed trying to figure things out. </li></ul>

Comments: Improvements <ul><li>I think that it would be more helpful if the in school time also allowed for interaction in person with the teacher. </li></ul><ul><li>Separate labs by subject area. </li></ul><ul><li>There should be more face to face contact with the teachers especially with the younger students. </li></ul><ul><li>Have the assignments open earlier than 7:30pm the night before. As a working parent, it would have been easier to have him start earlier in the evening. </li></ul><ul><li>Could be offered all through the summer, not just a certain time, for instance have multiple start dates. Then the teachers could grade in a staggered manner. </li></ul><ul><li>Thoroughly check that everything works properly. I had many technical difficulties. </li></ul><ul><li>More communication </li></ul>

Recommendations …. <ul><li>Provide a more comprehensive orientation that addresses technology issues and helps parents identify potential technology issues prior to implementation. </li></ul><ul><li>Change lab monitor role to include assisting with course work and tutoring struggling students. </li></ul><ul><li>Establish communication lines such as tested emails with the students and the parents that are reliable prior to course start date. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide opportunities for teacher and student to meet at school. </li></ul><ul><li>Be better prepared to deal with the lack of motivation on the side of typical academically failing students. </li></ul>
