Building iPhone games with Unity 3D

  1. 1. Building iPhone Games with Unity3D @tadej
  2. 2. Mobile games • Java, Symbian • Flash Lite • Android • OpenGL ES • iPhone + AppStore $
  3. 3. Half of them are 3D.
  4. 4. Half of them are 3D. Most of them suck.
  5. 5. The engine alone is a lot of work • Object loaders (Maya, Max, C4D, ...) • Space Transform Wrappers • Animation (keyframers, morphing, ...) • (Inverse) kinematics • Shaders, Particles, Lighting • Physics engine (rigid bodies, colliders, ragdolls, etc.) • Input, scripting, A.I. • Sound, Networking
  6. 6. Focus on gameplay, Indie.
  7. 7. Why Unity is cool • A pretty powerful 3D engine • Easy to handle • Physics, animation • Networking • Asset handling • Royalty-free assets • Scripting (JS, C#) • Community + scripts • Mac, Win, iPhone, Wii
  8. 8. But it’s not a silver bullet. • Some data format exchange issues • Script editor not so hot • (Microsoft Visual Studio support coming soon :P) • 2D support is limited • Torque 3D is cheaper ;)
  9. 9. Thanks. twitter.com/tadej /in/tadejgregorcic
