What Self-Care Means to College
           Students
“After three years of working out
eating right and taking care of my
well being through body work and
guided imagery self care has
changed my life. It is so easy to let
everyday task become
overwhelming stressors tying you
down from making it to the gym
or eating a balanced diet.
Sometimes we want more than
anything to practice self care but
we don't know where to start. We
are so hard on ourselves setting
these ridiculous self standards we
don't even realize we are creating
boundaries for no reason. We
must let go of all the standards
we hold so high for ourselves
except the things we cannot
control and just love ourselves.”

completely a personal
choice and may be
unnecessary in some
people’s eyes. We
practice self-care to
better ourselves or
change a part of
whom we are that we
don’t really care
about.”

lazy and forget things like
drinking water, eating well
and exercising. When we
make an effort to take care
of ourselves it is easy to
see the benefits. Planning
ahead is key in self care.
We have to put ourselves
at the top of our

with things like natural
selection in place over
millions of years that we as
a species would be pretty
good at taking care of
ourselves at this point in
time. Surprisingly that isn’t
the case. More often than
not, it seems that we as
humans often engage in
behavior that is
detrimental to our health
and well-being.”

“Developing a routine is most
often the most successful way
of establishing good self care,
if you make time for yourself
you will be more consistent at
engaging in healthier habits.
For example, if you wake up
15 minutes earlier than usual
you can take the time to eat
something healthy at home as
opposed to grabbing
something on the way that
may not be as nutritious.
What you eat has a direct
correlation to how you feel
and the energy you have
throughout the day.”

In conclusion, as you can see as peers we all see self-
care as an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
Whether it changes your life, or just helps one keep
themselves on task self-care is an important part of a
balanced healthy existence.
