Did God arbitrarily elected some of the totally depraved and totally disabled people to salvation and heaven while purposely and arbitrarily choosing to design others for condemnation and eternal hell for something they could not change? This lesson looks at the doctrine of "Unconditional Election". What does the Bible really say?

    1. 2. The Five Points of Calvinism #2 Unconditional Election
    2. 3. T: Total Depravity U: Unconditional Election L: Limited Atonement I: Irresistible Grace P: Perseverance of Saints
    3. 4. Unchangeable Design is a Mockery of Justice Calvinism makes God unjust. It denies the free-will of man. It blames man for what he cannot help or change. There is no battle between good and evil for the will. The game of life is fully staged and every move is what God designed to happen. This doctrine made many atheists. It caused many to lose hope of being elected.
    4. 5. Calvinism: Unconditional Election <ul><li>What Do The Creeds of Men Say? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>“ We say, then, that Scripture clearly proves this much, that God by his eternal and immutable counsel determined once for all those whom it was his pleasure one day to admit to salvation, and those whom, on the other hand, it was his pleasure to doom to destruction. We maintain that this counsel, as regards the elect, is founded on his free mercy, without any respect to human worth, while those whom he dooms to destruction are excluded from access to life by a just and blameless , but at the same time incomprehensible judgment.” (John Calvin) </li></ul></ul>
    5. 6. Calvinism: Unconditional Election <ul><li>What Do The Creeds of Men Say? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>“ By the decree of God , for the manifestation of his glory, some men and angels are predestinated unto everlasting life, and others foreordained to everlasting death . These angels and men thus predestinated and foreordained are particularly and unchangeably designed and their number is so certain and definite that it can not be either increased or diminished .” (Presbyterian Confession of Faith, chap. 3, sec. 3,4,5) </li></ul></ul>

For who has resisted His will?&quot; 20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? 8. 9. Calvinist’s Proof-texts <ul><li>Acts 13:45-48 </li></ul><ul><li>45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul . 46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, &quot; It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it , and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life , behold, we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>' I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.' &quot;* </li></ul></ul><ul><li>48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed . </li></ul><ul><li>NKJV </li></ul><ul><li>Notice the Order: </li></ul><ul><li>1. They HEARD </li></ul><ul><li>2. They were GLAD </li></ul><ul><li>3. They GLORIFIED the word of the Lord </li></ul><ul><li>4. They were APPOINTED to eternal life </li></ul><ul><li>5. So, they BELIEVED </li></ul><ul><li>They were “appointed” to eternal life in their attitude toward the word </li></ul><ul><li>This does not say they were “pre-appointed”, then heard, then were glad and glorified the word </li></ul><ul><li>They were “determined” to have eternal life so they believed . </li></ul>

Calvinist’s Proof-texts <ul><li>Ephesians 1:4-5 </li></ul><ul><li>“ just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world” </li></ul><ul><li>  US= us Jew & Gentile believers </li></ul><ul><li>He CHOSE believers In Christ </li></ul><ul><li>He did not unchangeably design who the “US” would be </li></ul><ul><li>He predestined the church to adoption as sons </li></ul>
    10. 11. Calvinism Men have no choice Limited atonement Double predestination God is partial Universalism Men have no choice Universal atonement Universal predestination God is unjust Truth Men have a choice Atonement available to all Biblical predestination God is impartial Either Unconditional or Conditional
    11. 12. He chooses one sinner and condemns many others arbitrarily and capriciously. Acts 10:34,35 “ Then Peter opened his mouth and said: In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” God is a respecter of persons Consequences of Unconditional Election and the Calvinistic View of Predestination
    12. 13. EVEN EVERY SIN! The first cause of EVIL is God Himself! James 1:13 “ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.” Everything is unchangeably foreordained 1 John 1:5 “… God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” Consequences of Unconditional Election and the Calvinistic View of Predestination
    13. 14. What Shall We Do? <ul><li>Calvinist answer: There is nothing you can do. The saved are unconditionally elected. </li></ul><ul><li>Peter’s Inspired Answer: “Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” – Acts 2:37-38 </li></ul>
