  4. 4. Workforce Strategic Plan • ASCO Board approved a 5-year strategic plan May 2008 • Goals and Objectives related to: 1. Oncology Care Delivery 2. Training Pipeline for New Oncologists 3. ASCO Structure – Ongoing Advisory Group and Data Collection and Report • Public release of plan and implementation details in November 2008 Journal of Oncology Practice article

Goal 1 - Oncology Care Delivery Study of Collaborative Practice Arrangements • Aims to explore collaborative practice models between oncologists and non-physician practitioners (NPPs). • Study will examine the impact of these models on practice efficiency and quality of care, and explore the satisfaction of physicians, NPPs, and their patients with collaborative practice models. • General survey and examination of 40 practices in-depth • Results anticipated in 2011

Goal 2 – Training Pipeline for New Oncologists Physician-Investigator Workforce Project • ASCO will be releasing an RFP in late 2009 for a contractor to assist ASCO in studying the Physician Scientist Workforce • Project is guided by a working group of ASCO volunteers who are researchers in the academic and private practice settings • Possible partnership with ASH

Goal 3 – ASCO’s Workforce Infrastructure Workforce Information System • Process for annually monitoring key workforce trends related to the supply of and demand for oncologists. • System will include – Database for maintaining key data points from published data sources and the survey questions developed herein – Survey questions – Prototype charts and graphs • ASCO exploring acquisition of more complete data from AMA Masterfile • ASCO expects to seek publication of the data in its Journal of Oncology Practice on an annual basis.
