our demands, is the TSM-8800
from 8dtek. 8dtek from Hong-
kong was founded in 2008 and
specializes in sophisticated,
highly technical solutions. The
TSM-8800 is a perfect example
of that.

  When we opened up the
box, it was obvious that 8dtek
did not skimp on quality nor
on any of the included acces-
sories. Absolutely solid and
sturdy; there’s no other way
to describe it. The electronics
were placed in a solid, brushed
aluminum chassis.

   The analyzer itself sits nicely
in your hand and is protected
from falls and other environ-
mental concerns. The manu-
facturer also surrounded the
analyzer in a rubber jacket with
openings for connectors on the
underside as well as the upper
and lower edges. This rubber
jacket prevents the analyzer
from slipping on almost any
surface. Because of its rela-
tively heavy weight, it sits sol-
idly in place and thus makes it
all the more easier to use.

The front panel sports a 3.5-
inch LCD display. It’s very easy
to read and produces very little
glare even with direct sun-
light. Six LEDs are located just
below the display and indicate
the current operational mode
of the analyzer. At one glance
you can identify the current
polarization level as well as the
current band (high or low) and
whether or not the analyzer
has locked on to a signal.

   8dtek incorporated an infra-
red receiver right in the middle
of the row of LEDs. Wait a
minute… an infrared receiver
for a signal analyzer? Actually,
it’s not a bad idea! The signal

Dolby Digital seems to have no end. Once we start to feel comfortable Plus requires only 96 kbps for stereo and with the terms DVB-S, DVB-T, MPEG-2, we learn that 224 kbps for 5.1 content. In 2005, the newer and better format You do not have to be an expert to had been standardized both by DVB and ATSC. The new notice that in place of a traditional MPEG stereo, you can have 5.1 channels in the format is called Enhanced AC-3 (E-AC-3) or Dolby Digital same bandwidth if only you use DD+ coding. multiplex has started to transmit its audio exclusively in Dolby Digital Plus format. This leads to either for stereo and 384~448 kbps for 5.1 cation and quantization algorithm. As a result, when DD+ signal is output from the set-top-box, its quality is better than that of classical DD despite the lower bandwidth required for transmission. Compatibility Transmissions in Dolby Digital Plus require a set-top-box (or “a receiver” as we call it in TELE-satellite reports) to be equipped with a DD+ decoder, otherwise you will hear nothing. French viewers of TNT HD multiplex R5 must use new DD+ compatible set-top-boxes. But what about the output? Do you need to upgrade to the latest A/V receiver? No, not necessarily. If you have one which is DD+ compliant, that’s great. Fig. 1. Will they be used only in Blu-ray Discs or also in digital TV? It is hard to say today. Presently, the main reason to introduce Dolby Digital Plus in digital TV is the need to save the bandwidth. But who knows, maybe in a year or two, the premium movie or music channels will start 7.1 channel transmission? The TSM-8800 is a perfect example of that. When we opened up the box, it was obvious that 8dtek did not skimp on quality nor on any of the included acces- sories. Absolutely solid and sturdy; there’s no other way to describe it. The electronics were placed in a solid, brushed aluminum chassis. The analyzer itself sits nicely in your hand and is protected from falls and other environ- mental concerns. The manu- facturer also surrounded the analyzer in a rubber jacket with openings for connectors on the underside as well as the upper and lower edges. This rubber jacket prevents the analyzer from slipping on almost any surface. Because of its rela- tively heavy weight, it sits sol- idly in place and thus makes it all the more easier to use. The front panel sports a 3.5- inch LCD display. It’s very easy to read and produces very little glare even with direct sun- light. Six LEDs are located just below the display and indicate the current operational mode of the analyzer. At one glance you can identify the current polarization level as well as the current band (high or low) and whether or not the analyzer has locked on to a signal. 8dtek incorporated an infra- red receiver right in the middle of the row of LEDs. Wait a minute… an infrared receiver for a signal analyzer? Actually, it’s not a bad idea! The signal www.TELE-satellite.com — 04-05/2010 — TELE-satellite — Global Digital TV Magazine 27
