STORYLINE <ul><li>CAST AWAY tells the story of Chuck Noland (tom hanks) who is highly efficient FedEx executive who devotes most of his life toward his troubleshooting job. His girlfriend Kelly (Helen hunt) is often neglected by his dedication to work, but she still loves him just like he does. </li></ul><ul><li>On Christmas eve when Chuck is at home enjoying with family, he has to leave urgently on a business trip but before going for the trip Chuck proposes Kelly for marriage and promises her that he will return as soon as possible and get married to her. </li></ul><ul><li>While flying through a thunderstorm, the plane meets with an accident and ultimately crashes into the ocean. However Chuck is saved he floats through the help of life raft until he is brought to a unknown deserted island. Soon he realizes that the island is inhabited and finds a way to survive like, drinks coconut water, attempts to catch fish & crab, discovers caves. He struggle a lot to survive on the inhabited island. </li></ul>
<ul><li>His fast-paced life is slowed to crawl. Due to the lack of human interaction he attempts suicide but fails. Now he realizes his stay on island may prolonged so he sets out opening all FedEx packages for survival. One of the item he finds is Wilson volleyball on which chuck draws a face and calls him Wilson. He interacts to him and develops deep friendship with the volleyball. </li></ul><ul><li>Through the crash Chuck was able to retain the pocket watch with Kelly picture which she gifted him on Christmas eve. He often look upon to her picture for comforts in lonely times and is motivated to go on and keep his hope alive that some one will rescues him. </li></ul><ul><li>Four years later, a dramatically thinner Chuck is seen expertly tossing a spear into the water, killing a fish. Finally, fate gives chuck a chance to fight his way back to his love and people. He builds a complete raft and sets out to the sea. </li></ul>
<ul><li>He faces an unexpected emotional challenges greater than the earlier physical ones. After drifting out in open sea for many days he does whatever is necessary to stay alive until he can be rescued. He loses Wilson his volleyball friend during his drifting through sea, chuck sobs over loss of his only friend. Finally he gets rescued by a cargo ship. </li></ul><ul><li>On returning home, chuck finds out that everyone close to him has given him up for dead long ago and moved on with their lives. Kelly his love gets married and has a child with that man. He gets hurt when he realizes the bitter truth and feels like he has lost Kelly allover again but that four years of struggle teaches him lots of things. </li></ul><ul><li>He decides to let go this phase and move on with his life. For all his life his objective was work but for those four years it was survival. He realizes Life is all about moving on and fighting back the tough fess waves of emotions and Survive </li></ul>
Characterization : <ul><li>Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) – He plays a workaholic executive of FedEx. His girlfriend often gets neglects because of his work but he loves her a lot. He faces lots of problems on the island but strives hard to survive for his love. He faces all sort of emotional and physical challenges. All the experiences on the island changes his attitude towards Life. </li></ul><ul><li>Kelly Frears (Helen hunt) – She plays a role of caring, supportive and understanding girlfriend. She loves Chuck a lot but feels neglected by his dedication towards work. She always believed that Chuck was alive but her family forces her to get married to another person. </li></ul><ul><li>There is also an imaginary character Wilson the volleyball that is created by chuck himself. He is the only friend to Chuck on an inhabited island. Chuck shares his feeling, talks to him and consider him as his Best Friend. </li></ul>
Direction and Cinematography <ul><li>The director and also the producer of the movie Robert Zemeckis has done a splendid job of portraying the life of a person on the inhabited island. There are no dialogues but tom hanks like always delivers his best performance. </li></ul><ul><li>A very good cinematography most of the scenes are well shot like the plane crash, his struggle on the island, fighting against the tides of huge sea but tom hanks steals the show. </li></ul><ul><li>The sound effects are the best, no doubt the movie received many Academy awards in 2000 for Best Sound. There is no music at all until he comes back from the island, to resemble the lack of civilization. </li></ul><ul><li>The movie makes it larger than a simple physical survivor story. The movie speaks about the life full of truth, pain and promises and moving on….. </li></ul>
<ul><li>CAST AWAY a must watch movie. </li></ul><ul><li>I loved Cast Away because it was different from all usual movie, it is a movie that we can relate to, it asks whether it is a blessing or a curse to survive a crash and land up being alone on a inhabited island for four years…! </li></ul><ul><li>The movie is very good, simple idea, excellent shots. The movie has a great impact as on survival in tough fess conditions. </li></ul><ul><li>Most of the movie has almost no dialogues but tom hanks undoubtly delivers his best through acting. </li></ul><ul><li>The bonding of actor with the Wilson volleyball is very well portray. </li></ul><ul><li>It also tells you to enjoy all the moments of the life to the fullest who know you may not get a second chance. </li></ul><ul><li>The movie has a message that Life is all about surviving through tough times and moving on. </li></ul>
