1. 1. Welcome to Debate Club

Rules of debate Club:

Everybody talks about debate club

Everybody has the right to talk in Debate Club

Everybody’s opinion is equal at Debate Club

 2. 2. Feminists

They’ve got it all?

 3. 3. Or have they still got…

A long way to go?

 4. 4. An issue as old as time itself

Basically, the question of Women’s Rights all comes down to 2 issues:

 5. 5. One: The Difference!

Men and Women are basically different

 6. 6. The basic difference

They have different ways of seeing

Different ways of behaving

And, most importantly,

different FUNCTIONS

 7. 7. This all goes back to…

Prehistoric times, when men were :

the hunters

(nutrition = wealth)

The fighters

(strength = power)

 8. 8. While women were:

Homekeepers

Child-nurturers

Cooks

In other words… the expendable stuff

 9. 9. One: The difference

Well, some of it

A lot of it, even

But not all of it

 10. 10. Two: the power struggle

As we have seen, strength means power :

Religious

Political

Economic

 11. 11. But there have been alternative models
 12. 12. Ancient, pagan cultures revered women’s powers:

Their life-giving role

Their connection to Nature

The cultural cohesion they assured

 13. 13. They worshipped god esses

As well as gods…..

And even above gods…

 14. 14. Later this was seen as a threat to the patriarchy

Witch-hunts and Inquisitions suppressed these alternative ideas

 15. 15. And put women back in their place as:

Decorative

Inferior

Dependent

Victims!!

 16. 16. And that’s the way we like them

Even with a bit of “power”

 17. 17. Girl-power? Really?
 18. 18. No witches!
 19. 19. Just adorable
 20. 20. And useful….
