The aim 
• Dialogue between history teachers and media professionals 
• Multi-perspective approaches by comparing different national narratives 
• Approximation of history teaching and media education 
• Methodological and didactic innovation 
With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union
We intended to achieve this through… 
1. A Baseline study of the needs and best practice 
examples in schools concerning the intercultural 
and media analytical competences 
2. Digital Open Educational Resources for 
secondary level focused on historical topics that are 
covered by national magazines and syllabi of all 
partnering countries (“European History 
Crossroads”): Columbus and WW1 
3. A set of courses for future and in-service teachers 
that integrates the new approach along with 
activating methods. 
With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union
Outcomes and products 
• A baseline study (http://www.european-crossroads.de/outcomes/baselinestudy) 
• 13 Digital modules (https://media.sodis.de/ehisto/en ). EXAMPLE 
• 9 school partners 
• 14 classes / 350 students involved in pilot stages 
• 43 in service teachers / 125 future teachers trained 
• 4 public newsletters 
• 20 articles / conference papers 
• Final conference (History and Edutainment) of The International Society of History Didactics.

Achievements & difficulties 
• The project itself was valuable for secondary school teachers and future teachers 
• DMs have been well received and acknowledged 
• Methodology and training was successful 
• Well received by the scientific community 
• Too much optimistic regarding maturity and “historical consciousness” of students 
• They are not aware of the interests involved in different narratives 
• DMs did not always fit with students’ skills 
• Popular History Magazines are far for being read directly by students without close

The aim • Dialogue between history teachers and media professionals • Multi-perspective approaches by comparing different national narratives • Approximation of history teaching and media education • Methodological and didactic innovation With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union
  • 5. We intended to achieve this through… 1. A Baseline study of the needs and best practice examples in schools concerning the intercultural and media analytical competences 2. Digital Open Educational Resources for secondary level focused on historical topics that are covered by national magazines and syllabi of all partnering countries (“European History Crossroads”): Columbus and WW1 3. A set of courses for future and in-service teachers that integrates the new approach along with activating methods. With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union
  • 6. Outcomes and products • A baseline study (http://www.european-crossroads.de/outcomes/baselinestudy) • 13 Digital modules (https://media.sodis.de/ehisto/en ). EXAMPLE • 9 school partners • 14 classes / 350 students involved in pilot stages • 43 in service teachers / 125 future teachers trained • 4 public newsletters • 20 articles / conference papers • Final conference (History and Edutainment) of The International Society of History Didactics. Wroclaw (Poland), 8-10 September 2014 With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union

Achievements & difficulties • The project itself was valuable for secondary school teachers and future teachers • DMs have been well received and acknowledged • Methodology and training was successful • Well received by the scientific community • Too much optimistic regarding maturity and “historical consciousness” of students • They are not aware of the interests involved in different narratives • DMs did not always fit with students’ skills • Popular History Magazines are far for being read directly by students without close With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union guidance
